Vaulted or normal height ceilings
Trying to decide between a villa with the normal or slightly raised ceilings or one with vaulted ceilings. If you have a patio villa which did you choose and why?

Vaulted ceiling
I agree. The higher ceiling make the patio villa feel bigger.I would not buy a home in TV without the vaulted ceiling.Expect to pay $3,000 TO $5,OOO more.In this market all patio villas are selling fast but in a slower market a vaulted ceiling patio will sell faster than a flat ceiling.

Ceiling type
We looked at both the flat and volume ceilings and decided that we did not want to pay more to heat & cool the house. If we lived there year round maybe we would think differently.

I love crown molding and trim work so flat ceilings would be best. All the houses in TV look unfinished and stark without trim moldings. Spend the extra money to finish it. JMO

i agree with marueenod about the flat ceilings for me because i like a traditional look and used paint and crown molding to achieve that. i think the flat ceilings are cozier but the vaulted ceilings more modern looking...depends on your taste.

I like the look of the flat ceilings better and also think they echo less.

I've been in several CYV's in our community, Southern Star Villas, and all have volume ceilings, it became standard on CYVs I believe sometime around 2005. I've seen many with crown molding and they look great, especially if you have plantation shutters and paint the walls. Here in this photo you can see our volume ceilings looking back from the LR toward the kitchen. The foyer and kitchen have 8' ceilings and then they vault up in the main room and bedrooms. http://imageshack.us/a/img163/2272/ev3n.jpg |
I think it depends on what is important to you. I have flat ceilings in my patio villa. The reason for this is the last time I tried to paint the walls and ceiling in my other home which has a very high vaulted ceiling I swore I would never buy a house with high ceilings again! The two rooms I have with vaulted ceilings also stay warmer in summer and cooler in winter than the other rooms. However, the high ceilings look great!
