Stonecrest POA requests Paradise gate open to all

Below is an interesting letter from the Stonecrest POA to the Sumter County Board of Commissioners. It is in the packet of documents for the Sumter County Commissioners regular meeting on Nov. 12, 2013.

Essentially, they make the case that the gate should be open to all for ADA and medical access reasons.

Isn't the gate in Lady Lake, Lake County? Why petition Sumter County commissioners?

Right, the path from Paradise to the gate is in Lake County. What business is it of Sumter County?

I wander about that because even for the ones who can not drive a car isn't there transport service available to take elderly or disabled people to and from their appointments like in other towns and cities.

93% of Stonecrest residents can drive a car according to the letter.

If that's the case, why did Sumter put it in their meeting agenda?

Why are so many people against outsiders coming into the Villages via golf carts? I for one think that we should be able to go anywhere with a cart, like into Fruitland Park, Lady Lake, Wildwood and other places. Some have said that the Villages pays to maintain the cart paths and outsiders do not. But seriously, how much wear and tear does a cart do to the paths?

I don't know. But some things are a right. And some things are a privilege.

I am posting this for informational purposes in case someone needs the service or knows someone who can benefit from this great taxpayer funded service: Public Transportation - Lake County Connection Sumter County, FL - Official Website - Transit

I see on the Sumter commissioners meeting agenda that the letter from Stonecrest is being presented "For information only." Does that mean there will be no discussion nor action taken?

Collect tolls!

If you don't have a gate card, insert a dollar!

Or, maybe sell gate cards to non-residents .... $50 per year?

Sad to say as in a previous posted concerning unwanted guest.
It's the developers party:confused:

Do you find the multi-modal paths crowded at this time? Want to add even more traffic?

Or how about Stonecresters who want the privilege of having the opportunity to use their golf carts to get around pay the same monthly amenity fee we pay. Remember, you pay the piper to live the dream.

This small percentage of people from Stonecrest that want to take their carts to the doctors office vs utilizing free public transportation could also move within The Villages, problem solved.

Also, if this would be approved for Stonecrest, how would you keep every other adjacent community from demanding the same thing? This is not a good idea and could greatly devalue The Villages. Why bother living within when you can have the same thing from living outside?
