Solar Tube versus Sky Light

I'm not endorsing anything but wasn't actually sure of the design of the solar tube. This will give you some idea.

Re: Solar Tube versus Sky Light

We have a Whispering Pine with an enclosed lanai and the living room always seemed dark (I felt like I needed a miners hat). When we were down in April, we had 2 20-21 inch Solar tubes put in there and another one put in the guest bathroom... Fantastic... the people were very nice, came out withen 2 days and put the 3 tubes in in under 4 hours. The installer was a first rate person. Now if you ask me who they were I will have to ask my wife... Hey it's a guy thing ;D

Hey Jurek,

Sorry it took so long. We had our solartubes put in by Solatube Skylights, The Sunshine Line, Inc. (407) 673-9422.

We had 2-14" Solatubes and 1-10" Solatube put in and it cost us $1,897

Re: Solar Tube versus Sky Light

My solar tubes were installed by The Solar Guys. have one in the Kitchen and one in the bath. My sister had them installed also but she went one further and had the solar attic fan put in the garage. She says her electric bill is at least 40% less than it was previously. I am seriously thinking about having one installed also. It pulls the heat out of the attic, thus the house doesn't get quite as hot and the air conditioner doesn't come on as often.

Re: Solar Tube versus Sky Light

We bought a resale and there are solar tubes in the kitchen and master bathroom. They each measure about 21 inches and provide an incredible amount of light. They're great! ;D

About the Solar lights, There are 2 kinds I found, One is Solar Tube and the other is Solar Tunnel by Velux, The Solar Tunnel is not as brite like the Solar Tube, More of a natural light, I liked the solar tunnel somewhat better as it was not like a beam of light but rather a soft light, Buts that's my preference, I had 2 of them installed in my home by Solar Solutions 2 21 inch ones and love them.

Re: Solar Tube versus Sky Light

When we stayed in May we were amazed by the amount of light from the solar tubes.
It sounds like a great feature.
Are there any negatives?
