Any effective treatments for diabetic neuropathy?
 

A recent posting on Facebook indicated that a new form of Vitamin B12 is an effective treatment for diabetic neuropathy.

This Vitamin B12 is derived from Methylcobalamine rather than the traditional cyanocobalamine. They claim it will accelerate the regrowth of damaged nerves.

Apparently this form of B12 is available at GNC stores and on the Internet. It can be taken as a pill that is swallowed or dissolved under the tongue.

Has anyone reading this had any experience with this form of B12? I would be interested in your results.

my doc recommends 'gabapentin'

I also take Gabapentin 300 mg Capsules since 2005. Originally I had bad pain in both hands and the neurologist tested my arms and said I had severe carpal tunnel syndrome. I had surgery on both hands in 2003. Two years later I had the same in both feet, this time the neurologist said there is no surgery we can do, but put me on Gabapentin and it works great for me. I take one in the morning and one in the evening, I also take Metroformin for diabetes 2. You may also see it listed as Neurontin.

I don't know about the Vitamin B12 but would be interested in learning more about it. I also take the Gabapentin but don't believe that has any "healing" properties but just helps alleviate pain! It also makes me sleepy so I take two at night and none during the day as night is when my neuropathy bothers me most.

this exactly my story except for the CTS, i take 1cap morning an night b4 bed , the best thing i have Ever done is i walk 5 days a week 3-4 mile a day, my pain is non-existancant and my BS are never higher than 125.. i am a big guy that loves to eat crappy food, but i get my 5 veggies in everyday ( not fried califlower) my docs are pleased with my health , my biggest health risk here is slipping an falling by stepping in dog poop!

I would ask your doctor if B12 will do anything for your neuropathy but that's just me. I assume you are under a doctor's care for your diabetes!

I am a type 2 diabetic, but I don't have neuropathy or take B12. Good luck if this vitamin defiency solves your neuropathy problem. I for one, would be interested in your result.
