Wild salmon vs farm raised
When you go to a supermarket fish department, the type of salmon offered is labeled. So you know what you're getting without a doubt. The same applies to canned salmon where wild is labeled as such.
But I've been looking at the ads in the newspaper, in advance of Thanksgiving, and restaurants that offer salmon don't specify "wild" or "farm raised" although they sometimes specify the typed of dressing that goes with it. Being that the prices are fairly high, one might assume that it's wild salmon. If most people don't know the difference, and they probably know that most people either don't know or don't care, I suppose they would likely provide the one that costs them less. And that would be "farm raised". What do you think? Did I get it right? I will probably end up having a little turkey because I hate having to call them to ask about it. (No Golden Corral this year.) |
I will eat Peanut Butter & Jelly before I eat a farm raised fish - gross, they swim around in their mess and I just don't believe in the practice.

only wild ! They usually have signs by the fish in the store.

I, too, will try not to buy farm raised salmon, though when out, I do order the fish. My favorite salmon is Scottish salmon....but just today, this appeared. The Scottish salmon I get is flown in, but I do not know if it is wild or farm raised....probably the latter. Will now have look for further information, one report is just that, one report. Scottish salmon is delicious, sweet and not inexpensive.

I will only buy wild salmon.
Same with shrimp, only wild. I also do not buy shrimp from Indonesia or Vietnam, etc. Just like I don't buy fruit from South America. I try to buy in season. |
