Thanks so much...it's on my calendar!

You could also put it out with your trash.Or just put it out at the end of your driveway someone will take it! I put out a split bowling ball figuring it would be picked up with the trash & someone took it well before the trash man came.Maybe they've been having problems with the 7 -10 split.:1rotfl:

curbside pickup with the trash has always worked for me.

Take it to TV Computer Clubs meetings as then can use for parts. They recycle old computers to make a good working one and donate to a charity. Here is a link so you can view the dates and meetings locations.

I believe they also take Mac's for rehab but not 100% sure.

Just make sure you wipe out the hard drive if you can.

A good idea, but I believe some info from the hard can be retrieved, by special software. Someone who knows what they are doing can do this. However if you are giving it to someone you know and trust, you should be safe. IMHO

Maybe it's the techie in me but I found a good couple of hits from a hammer will destroy the hard drive. If one wants to really ensure no info can be taken form the hard drive, physically tearing the hard drive into pieces will definity
work.

Right... I just would not put a laptop out on the curb for the trash without destroying the hard drive. Used to be Goodwill would recycle computers.

Thanks for all of the advice. We were worried about info on hard drive....smashing with a hammer sounds like a great idea.

Not to mention a heckuva good time!

No worry at TV computer club as they have all the tools to wipe the hard drive. The guys there can be trusted. There are a number of DOD programs out there that will wipe the drive and then write a 1 or 0 to the drive. This will go through a number writing to all sectors to make sure every thing is clean.

Now saying that if the FBI wants to take a look they may be able to go down into the magnetic media to find something.
