Our 2013 Christmas Ornament

Many years ago my mother had a Christmas tradition where every year she made a new ornament. Anyone who visited her home during the holidays always left with one of her ornaments. They were all signed and dated, and each one was always unique. All were made from something that would normally be thrown away or found in nature--pine cone snowmen, popsicle stick sleds, small piece of ribbon angels, and many, many others. Between my mother’s and ours, we now have enough homemade ornaments to decorate an entire tree.

My mom passed several years ago, and we have continued her tradition. Each year Susi and I make about 50 – 60 ornaments and hand them out to friends and family who visit during the holidays. For those of you who have seen the movie "Rise of the Guardians" you may recognize our 2013 ornaments.

They are finally done and on the ornament tree. We did 54 of them this year. You can also see many of the prior year ones around the bottom of the tree. There are skiers, airplanes, reindeer, trains, rocking horses, angels, snowmen, candles and a helicopter. Even did the prototype for the first year we are in TV. (not displayed)
