How ironic. A Hawaiian Island celebration 1) At the Eisenhower 2) On Dec. 7th, Pearl Harbor 3) The Day of Infamy when 2402 Americans were killed and almost 1300 wounded! I think another day would be more appropriate.

I agree with The Buckeyes. I think this is a very sensitive day for a lot of our veterans and not sure its appropriate to "celebrate" the day when so many lives were lost and the start of a major world war.?? I don't think this is a celebration day, IMHO.

Apparently the coordinators of events do not think about the date when they set up events. If you will check the Daily Sun, the American Legion is sponsoring a benefit that same evening for the Honor Flight. I thought that was a little wrong also.

With all due respect, we did not schedule this show. That was done by The Villages Entertainment Department. Our role is to present the entertainment and, hopefully, raise some money for Operation Shoebox.

The "aloha spirit" in which the show is presented is one of love, honor, and respect for all living things. The Hawaiians are not responsible for the Pearl Harbor attack and suffered loss of life as we did. It was their misfortune that Pearl Harbor was located in their homeland.

It is very hurtful that we attempt to present something that is lovely and meant to commemorate the Christmas season and suffer attacks because of it. Also, if you read the flyer, you will see that the show presents two themes -- the commemoration of Christmas and the recognition of patriotism in honor of President Eisenhower and National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Interesting that no where on the flyer does it state that this is for Operation Shoebox. It only states it in the paragraph posted on this site. I thought that free advertising and self promotion was not allowed on this site.

With all due respect, I think it would be up to "someone" to inform the Entertainment Dept. that this is a solemn day since they did not have the foresight to connect the event to that date,,, but also, as you state above, recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day should be one of sad reflection and respect for those we lost. It was not a good day in American History. Very bad planning on the part of those who call the shots.

That is very true. Is it or is it not for Operation Shoebox???? I would have thought it would be advertised on the poster????

Well no change in the entertainment schedule at any of the squares that day and Cactus Jack at Katie Belles. So plenty of "celebration" going on. I assume you would want that cancelled also.

As an aside, WW2 didn't "start" with the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Did you bother reading the ad? It states that "---with a splash of patriotic flair commemorating National Pear Harbor Remembrance Day".

Seems to me they are taking into consideration the historic events of the day.

You don't get it do you. This has nothing to do with Katie Belles or any of the squares......it is about showing some respect at a military themed rec center on "A day that will live in infamy". Just remember those young men who gave the ultimate sacrifice and the many more so that you have the freedom to dance at the square!
