The FD seems very much on the ball. They sure get around a lot and have rather unique looking fire trucks. There are a number of police departments which cover the Villages depending on in what County you are located. I believe Marion, Sumter and Lake Counties sheriff's offices come into the picture as well as Lady Lake's PD.
Personally, I have not had any bad experiences with any of these. Had a very nice experience with a very helpful Sumter County police officer when my car broke down on one of the main thoroughfares in the Villages. My car breaks down a lot and has done this in other Counties where I usually had to depend on the help of a good samaritan to help me out. The cops would just drive right on by a disabled vehicle.

These various departments were quite involved in the February 2, 2007 tornado that hit parts of the Villages in Lake and Sumter County. Marion County was spared as far as I know from the 2-2-07 tornado.

The Villages has a Villages Watch program that seems effective but I do not know that much about it really.
