Anyone else watching Ken Burns' The War?

Any Villagers or guests watching Ken Burns' new series The War? I hear that the DVD comes out October 2, 2007.

Yes me. I've been watching it. Very interesting, but too much for me for one night. I'll get the Video from Netflix when it comes out and watch 1 hour at a time.

For those interested in history, we are currently takeing a wonderful class at Lifetime Learning about Joshua Chamberlain. The instrutor will be giving another class on Teddy Roosevelt in Jan.

Just finished watching number 4. For those of us who were alive during the war, it's very touching. I don't believe the schools teach this part of our history. Todays generations don't understand or have any appreciation for what the war meant to the US. I hope they watch this series.

Very moving especially hearing them talk about "Storming the Beach"! Brave men brought a tear to my eye.

I recorded it and tried to watch it today and all I got was gray. Damn!! Guess I will have to order it from Blockbuster when it comes out next week.

It is being released almost as quick as The Bronx is Burning!!

I stopped by Wal-mart today. They have the DVD and a book with the narrative from the DVD. Thumbed through the book - looks good!! $35+ for each.

My uncle (USMC) was captured at Corregidor, incarcerated at Cabanatuan in the Philippines and liberated in Japan in 1945.

My father was an Army medic and served in five major campaigns in Europe - part of the Yankee Division.

God bless them all.

Yes. I think it shows us that their was a time when Americans had the courage, guts and solidarity to really stand up for our freedom and Democracy. I think our politicians should remember that "loose lips sinks America."

"Loose lips sinks ships". Words to live by in a time of peril. Most of the mainstream news media should be included along with the politicians. They all should be ashamed. I watched all of "The War".....very good. The Longest Day was the benchmark until it was it was replaced by my new fav...."Band of Brothers". Richard Winters, commander of Easy Company is an extraordinary man. The 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division was one the most awesome units. To tell their story, in the way the producers did, was truly a wonderful work of journalism. I tear-up at sometime during each episode.
