Notice of commencement (NOC)
 
We are contemplating having some work done in the house by local contractors.

Can anyone help us understand:
(1) what is the purpose of getting a notice of commencement?
(2) what is the risk of not getting one?

This article might help.
A notice of commencement is needed if the work requires a building permit. Some work that is done by contractors only needs ARC approval. ( Villages Architectural Committee) Depends on the scope of the work.
