RC flying, astronomy and ham radio

Is there a radio controlled flying group in The Villages?

And how about an astronomical observing group?

Any ham groups or a repeater covering The Villages?

;D Yes there is a RC flying club at the Villages. Its electric only and last I knew (I'm a snow bird) it was Mon Wed and Fri up to noon at the Polo Fields. They may have added Thursday but not sure. Cost is very high - $5.00 WOW ! And after I joined the first year they didn't need anymore money. But for that investment you need to come out and fly. They also fly on some golf courses that aren't yet open on other days. There are also fuel fields right outside the villages - I don't know much more about them. Club seems very active but not too much trouble flying. They limit to 5 stations (may be 4 now). Not having a RC flying field was a previous concern of mine a few yrs back - Great that such a beautiful / well kept (by polo field) field is their for our use.

BTW if you want to fly free at the Polo field and have a RealFLight G3/3.5 RC simulator you can go to www.knifeedge.com and download the Photofield > The Villages RC Polo Field. The distinguished looking guy behind the hedges is me ( I look a bit different then the photo in this post) .

Re: RC flying, astronomy and ham radio

We now fly every Mon, Tues, Wed and Fri mornings from 7:30 (or sun-up) until noon at the Polo Fields. Still electric only but preferably no 30% models or large d/f as we have horse farms and ball fields close by that we try not to overfly. Do need current AMA. Have about 100 members todate at all skill levels. You are welcome to come on down with or without models, we will provide instruction if a newbie or you can be roped in to help others if profficient !! Usually the wind is the only limiting factor as the morning wears on and with the morning dew, seaplane types are easy to fly off of the grass.
See you there,

Barry K.

The Villages Amateur Radio Club meets third Tuesday each month at 7 pm at the El Santiago recreation center. View their website at www.TVARC.net. It's a good group.
