if I'm unable to sell a sofa I have posted, I wondered if anyone can give me information on the best place to sell it? Has anyone used them and if so, can you give an idea of how much you could expect to receive?

We've used both. We sold a desk thru NeerleeNew (they don't consign) and we got literally peanuts for the desk - $100. If I were looking to buy it I would have paid $800 or more. Found the same for a few other items we tried. We consigned a nook table & chairs with B&T later on and were happy with the results.

In both cases don't be surprised if they reject what you're trying to sell. We've had more rejects than acceptances with both. Don't overlook The Furniture Barn in Fruitland Park. We've purchased from B&T....tried to see some items to them but they were "picky" which surprised us as our items were in much better shape than some I've seen there. Consignment shops---you won't get "top" dollar as they're in it to make some cash too. You'll never get back what you put into an item. For instance "if" you bought a sofa 2 years ago for $2k you can't get 1/2 back!! Was told once by someone who deals with buying and selling that 10% of the item should be expected.

FYI....I think I saw that a store-front on hwy 44 has the Nearly New sign on it so wondering it they'll have 2 locations (?)

No they don't! Called them to confirm and she told me that it's a different company... and the names are probably different... Nearly New vs. NeerleeNew.

I sold a love seat and several other items thru B



































I've sold several items through B & T and was completely satisfied with the result. They are picky - this was an Ethan Allen love seat that had barely been sat on with the arm
covers still in plastic under the cushion. Advertised on TOTV - no takers - ended up getting more after they took their cut then what I was trying to sell it for myself!

Alternate sale option for your consideration...

IF you don't mind people coming to your home, you may do better by listing your item on Craigslist (craigslist: ocala classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events). It costs you NOTHING to advertise, and you can either provide your contact number or let them respond to the default address that you are assigned when setting up your ad. Just a thought.

I have purchased items from all three sources that your respondents have mentioned. I personally like to buy from bargains & treasures better than the others. They seem "fair" in their pricing. As others have mentioned, you will not get top dollar from them. They will look and tell you what they can sell it for. You get 50% or 55%, they keep the rest.

I advertised an armoire for sale here and had no luck selling. Neerlee New would not take it because it would not hold a 50" TV. Furniture Barn offered me $100 for it. I ended up selling it on Craigslist for $300. If I was not able to sell it, I was planning on donating it and taking the tax deduction.

We've done this too. If you are going to get mere peanuts for your item, you might as well donate it and let someone who really needs it take advantage of it. You get a tax deduction, and some person who needs but can't afford to buy furniture retail gets a break.

We have gotten rid of most of our furniture through Carriage Trade in Ocala.
352-369-9298. I believe it starts out 70/30 for the first 90 days. If it has not sold by then it goes to 50/50 for another period of time then I believe 70/30. If it has not sold by then they call and ask you if it is ok to donate it to a local organization. We have had very good luck with them. Just call them and ask about it. They also come and pick up the furniture. We have been to their business several times and it is a nice place with nice, reasonable priced furniture. Good Luck!

I have used Bargains and Treasures and they give you either 60 or 55 %. Thing is all my items sold immediately. In comparison I find Bargains & Treasures more for the regular folk, I love their selection. Very fair.
