Default Tiger VS. Phil - THE MATCH

While not great (nor even really good) golf by any means...it WAS very intriguing and had some drama.

Plus, the course looks pretty darned awesome!

Being All-Square after 19 holes (they played 18 twice), they set up a 93 yard par three with the tee box where the practice putting green was...and hit to a new cup cut on the 18th green.

On the third time playing that short hole, Tiger barely misses his birdie putt, Phil makes his birdie putt...for the win and $9M.

And even though the commentators were sometimes too hyped (and sometimes downright funny), all in all I think it was well worth...the measly $20 it cost.

Now let the criticism begin.

Our golf group played 9 holes before The Match and we watched the event afterwards at my house. We put friendly wagers on every hole and closet to the pin. There was many side bets between my buddies. We had a ball. Interesting we were just about split on who would win. As I said on another thread I had no problem streaming via ROKU directly to B/R Live channel.

Our slight disappointment was the lack of smack talking and side bets by Tiger and Phil as the media overhyped leading up to the event. As one of the boys pointed out "networth wise we bet more on side bets than Tiger or Phil". I can't remember all the bets by Tiger and Phil but the only one that had teeth in my opinion was the first hole where Phil bet he would get a birdie or lose the bet if he doesn't. After that it became more like If you make a hole in one then I'll pay - there not much skin in that odds wise. My gut says we won't see this type event again if it is a pay to watch event.

I am a big fan of both Tiger and Phil. However, even when I heard it could be accessed free on bleacher report.com I passed. Could not muster up the faintest interest in this contrived event.

I for one like the one on one match play, like She’ll challenge or who ever put the event on back in the 60s. I like tiger and Phil both had this happened before they got too old and joined the senior tour. Naa, they got too much money to go on senior tour as far as paying PPV, not for me.
