Now that is indeed a challenging problem. I am not sure how to solve that issue. We could learn to fly?

Or are all of us getting old and silly?

Only three small Villages dog parks for 100,000 residents plus their mutts (two allowed per household). Of course there's a problem.

Lots of back yards!

I agree!

It is not anyones job to help you walk your dog and then ask everyone else to pay for supplies and endure the stink. I am a true dog lover, heres how I treat my good friend. I walk her on my property, I pick up, then I put her in my golf cart and take her to our favorite spot where she can run and get all the exercise she needs. She knows if she does her business, then its time to go play. Because I love that dog, I do my best to see that she is not a problem for others. Maybe that is why so many of our neighbors stop at our driveway just to play with her. Good dog, no problem.

I suggest instead, they create one waste receptacle (maybe in a special color) somewhere in the dog “walking area” labeled “Animal Feces Only”.

I think this approach might have a chance of succeeding, mostly.

Speaking as the self-appointed President of the Puppy Defense League (hereafter referred to as the PDL) I disagree that there should be puppy-poop-containers at the mail centers.

Ever walk by the Puppy-poop-containers at the dog park? They reek, they create a fly problem, they are just gross.

I personally don't like to walk my little PUMP-KIN in areas where other dogs poop and pee. Grant it, most of the dogs around here look pretty healthy, but you never know.

Be civilized, take your poop home with you, or do the smart thing, let them go on your neighbors lawn when nobody is looking. DUH, how hard is this to figure out.

Bogie, dogs need lots of exercise. They get dizzy running in circles in the back yard. That's why people walk their dogs to pick up the mail.

My only point was that I feel there would be less complaints about dogs if there were more dog parks provided by The Villages. But I personally don't have a problem, I just pay to take my dogs to a private dog park.

what could be easier?

I think this is a sensible solution, too. But, the perpetrators are the least likely to even pick up the dog doo with a bag in the first place.

Without trash cans there, they would leave even more piles on the ground for others to stop and genuflect in front of it.

I agree that removing the trash cans is the most sensible solution. I don't generally see poop anywhere else on my walks thru the Villages, so I don't expect most people would leave it on the ground at the post office. If you fenced off the grassy areas by the post office so dogs couldn't get in their, it would help. And the added bonus is, people would carry their junk mail home with them, and possibly put it out curbside for recycling. As it stands now, all the junk mail going into the trash bins at the postal stations does not get recycled, which is a pet peeve of mine.

What would be nice is if they just took a few postal stations and did a study. Remove the trash receptacles and see what happens. If people are littering their junk mail and/or dog poop, then you'd have to try something else.

No fences.

No signs.

No Dalmation statues peeing on fireplug statues.

No Flamingos.

Many of us moved here because of these things.

I love dogs even if I dont have any. My friends take their dog poop home. I love my friends.

I love a lot of doggies who belong to my friends and neighbors and they do just that. And I would do just that if I had a dog. My kids and my pets are NOT the responsibility of others. I take care of my own and I try to not let my kids and my pets bother other people so that my kids and my pets grew up being liked by others.

Is that political?

And just how is it that you would know what your friends and neighbors do with their dog crap?

Gracie, you may not have seen this clarification from the Admin on what is political - it should answer your question
---------------------------------------------------
For clarification - there are NO changes in the general forums of TOTV. Discussions that have always happened regarding issues and governance in The Villages have been and will continue as always.

The political forum where discussions and debates on political parties ie: Democrat and Republican has been suspended. Those discussions have not been allowed in the general forums and that will continue to be our policy.

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

Admin

Glad I tuned in to this thread. All this time I thought the post office trash cans were specifically for dog poop. Our dog Caly never actually poops at the post office, we have been bringing poop from home to drop off when we get our mail.

Rainy day in MA, so just being silly :D

My good old Mom (now 92) told us kids we had to eat 5 pounds of dirt before we died. So we played outside, dug in the dirt for worms, caught lizards and frogs. And if our cookie fell on the floor we picked it up and ate it anyway.
Later on during my pediatric rotations in medical school, I discovered that the kids with the most obsessive-compulsive, fastidious about cleanliness Mommies, were the same kids that got the most colds, were first to develop the latest flu of the season. And the same kids who were most prone to asthma and other allergic disorders.
So all you clean freaks out there, get over yourselves.

YOu are so right. You can't build immunity and be healthy if your body never faces things to build defenses against. Unless your immune system is compromised with chemo or some such thing, you are better off not being too persnickity.

In fact it is better for you to not overdo the germ remover wipes and such.

Thank you kind sir for your wisdom.

gomoho 08-18-2012 02:34 PM

Thank you for the information about bringing the dog poop from home to the mail station. Will make my life much easier. Never thought of that!
I too was allowed to eat dirt and not freak out over every possible germ around and am pretty healthy so I guess it works - and yes I even walk around the house with my shoes on.

ilovetv 08-18-2012 02:42 PM

I still think it is not necessary to bring the dog to the mail center. There are miles of other pathways to walk the dog on.

Plus, it's often difficult to carry all the junk mail and real mail and packages home with only one hand, when the other hand is holding the dog leash.

Better yet, take the dog for a golf cart ride to go and get the mail, and leave the dog harnessed in the seat for one minute while you get the mail. Then there would be NO dog messes there.

There is a solution that is absolutely free of cost and does not inconvenience non-pet owners. Bag the stuff and take it home for disposal.

We did the same growing up. Always wondered if that was one reason I'm seldom sick and have no allergies (knock on wood). Even to this day, if my dog poops off my property, I bag it and carry it home.

Added the last sentence to stay on topic. :D

p.s., What's a dog poop thread without Fumar's humor? It's been a while. Hope he's okay.
