Well, it seems like an hour. I am sure it is a good 45 minutes. If I am up in Ocala, I like to try new places. I noticed Harry's has a place up there. It just seems a long way to go just for dinner when there are closer alternatives. Boy, I sure sound like a retiree! I expect to get everywhere I want in fifteen minutes, and that's golf cart driving time. I am pathetic.

Having said that, I thought they were very nice there, and the place seemed clean.
I hope they can stay in business as it is very hard for restaurants to make it.
Azteca management, if you read this post, please use a little more mexican spices in your dishes, and I don't necessarily mean 'heat'.

Just mention this to your server. They'll fix it your way. I do this in Chinese restaurants too.

I would love to find an El Chico, El Fenix, or any other place similar to those located almost on every corner back home.

Now you're talking!! I am from Texas too, and we loved El Fenix (back in the day). Boy would I love to find a similar mexican restaurant in Florida.
If you find a good one, please post it. I find 'Florida-Mex' very bland. : )

What a great idea. I really never ask for anything special. The dish I mentioned in my initial post was nice and spicy, but next time, if I want something else from the menu, I will do that. Thanks for the tip.

need to try that but I like a margarita with my mexican food.Is the salsa good?

simpkinp 04-19-2013 09:05 PM

I like their salsa as it is spicy and their chips are fresh.

We went there the other night, and the place was almost empty. Got the shrimp, chicken, beef fajita for two and it was excellent. Good spicing and nice combo of veggies and shrimp/meats.

One person in our group had the two enchiladas with one chicken and the other cheese. The chicken enchilada was good but the cheese one was a liquid blob. She asked if they forgot the tortilla and was told in broken english something like " when we heat it that happens" ????

I'll give them another try in the future if they're still in business.

Whoopsy, we must have ordered the wrong thing but ours was not what we consider good Mexican. Hubby ordered chiles relleno and I had a combo plate with a "homemade" tamale that looked and tasted like the ones that come out of a can. Guacamole could have been very good but was full of chunky raw onions!
We will probably give it one more try! The lady that may have been the owner was very nice!

The manager is an older lady. She makes the salsa fresh, and her green salsa is the best we have ever had in a Mexican restaurant. She will also sell it, if one wants to take some home. Nice people. If they would run a coupon in The Daily Sun, they would be very crowded !!!!

I went to Aztecas again for dinner Saturday evening with my son, his wife and the grand kids. We all loved it. My son was very impressed. Since we are from California, we absolutely love Mexican food. I tried the carnitas this time and the meat was nice and tender. The others had the Molcajete Caliente and thought it was excellent. That is still my favorite dish there. My companion and I ate the leftovers for dinner last night... Still delicious.

Appreciate in input from everyone.
We are from California where there are lots of good Mexican restaurants. Have yet to find a good one here in TV.
We'll give it a try.

We've been there as well...reasonable prices! We had a Margarita with our food...so things may have changed re: alcoholic beverages. The service is prompt and the place is quiet which we enjoyed.
