The Ballantine sign was on the old scoreboard in the original Yankee Stadium.

I remember when a Yankee hit a home run, Mel would say,
"there goes a Ballantine blast". I loved his saying of "how about that"!!!!!

Back to the thread. When I started drinking, Schaeffer was the most popular beer in the neighborhood. PBR and Schlitz were around.

My neighbor had recently served Schaeffer to me.
IMHO - It didn't taste nearly as good as some of the beers out today.

some more fond memories of the Yankees on WPIX, along with Phil Rizzuto's "Holy Cow"

Had a friend whoes father worked for Schaefer Beer. I was wondering if they were still around. You saved me asking the question.

Taking this topic back to the original topic (BTW, my nostalgic baseball beer commercial was listening to the Indians games and hearing the whistle for "Mabel...Black Label!")

Is there any restaurant in the Villages or surrounding area that carries microbrews on tap? I do not mean Yuengling, which I enjoy, but a variety of IPAs, Porters and Stouts. I cannot find one.

Walgreens in Colony Plaza often has 12 packs of Genny Cream stacked over by the freezers.

We have visited the Villages 3 times over the past couple years. All the places there seem to server the same mega brewery beers. The only place I found that even had a couple of microbrews (albeit not small breweries) was the TGIF at LSL. Years ago, they used to have a pretty good microbrewery over in SS but that closed some time ago and I understand there is an Italian restaurant in there now that just recently opened.

They serve the same beers because under their contracts they have to buy their booze through the Villages. That old restaurant was Augustine's and it was one of the best and did have the best beers but it was run by the developer and they'd rather rent than run restaurants . . . such a same they let the brewing equipment go and did not bring in something like the John Harvard Brew House!

I really wish there was a place that had a bunch of craft beers in one of the squares. Bud, Miller, and Yuengling just ain't cutting it.:cus:

I just bought some Yuengling in NY and it doesn't taste as good as I remember.

I had a glass when I was in TV and it tasted delicious. Maybe for me, I need to be in TV. :)
