Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks, sounds great.

Ah...Ballentine beer. Brings back memories. My dad worked for PRR. I remember on Friday Nights he came home from work with a quart sized bottle of Ballentine beer in a brown paper bag! My beer of choice in the 70's was Schlitz. We would drive over to Jersey from Philly suburbs on the weekend because the drinking age was 18. What memories!

Was I in the car with you? First it was NYC then NJ....drinking age of 18 didn't last long :(

AHHHHHH the 3 rings of Ballentine..........

Remember it well, 1968, old enough to be drafted but not old enough for a draft.

I remember the Yankee games with Mel Allen were sponsored by Ballantine beer. The commercial had a beer being poured into a Pilsner glass with the foam spilling over from the top. I was too young to drink at that time.

Now, it kind of makes me thirsty as I think of it. :beer3:

Remember Mel Allen saying, "Make the three ring sign for Ballantine."

For Aloha, the OP: Publix at Colony Plaza had three 6-packs of Schlitz last evening for $6.19 each.

The Ballantine sign was on the old scoreboard in the original Yankee Stadium.

Sounds like you have been to Swiston's. Don't forget the Labatt's Blue to wash those sandwiches down! No, I'm not crying, I just bit my tongue.

Mrsanborn, you moved to TV from zip code 14304, which is the same zip where I grew up. Back then it was farm land and dirt roads. We probably have the same culinary tastes!

I remember when a Yankee hit a home run, Mel would say,
"there goes a Ballantine blast". I loved his saying of "how about that"!!!!!

Back to the thread. When I started drinking, Schaeffer was the most popular beer in the neighborhood. PBR and Schlitz were around.

My neighbor had recently served Schaeffer to me.
IMHO - It didn't taste nearly as good as some of the beers out today.

some more fond memories of the Yankees on WPIX, along with Phil Rizzuto's "Holy Cow"

Had a friend whoes father worked for Schaefer Beer. I was wondering if they were still around. You saved me asking the question.

Taking this topic back to the original topic (BTW, my nostalgic baseball beer commercial was listening to the Indians games and hearing the whistle for "Mabel...Black Label!")

Is there any restaurant in the Villages or surrounding area that carries microbrews on tap? I do not mean Yuengling, which I enjoy, but a variety of IPAs, Porters and Stouts. I cannot find one.

saratogaman 12-21-2011 06:13 PM

Walgreens in Colony Plaza often has 12 packs of Genny Cream stacked over by the freezers.

We have visited the Villages 3 times over the past couple years. All the places there seem to server the same mega brewery beers. The only place I found that even had a couple of microbrews (albeit not small breweries) was the TGIF at LSL. Years ago, they used to have a pretty good microbrewery over in SS but that closed some time ago and I understand there is an Italian restaurant in there now that just recently opened.
