We met a couple at Lakewood Winery who raved about the authenticity of the crab cakes at the Whale’s Tale in Mt Dora. Unfortunately it takes more than Old Bay to recreate MD crab cakes. IMHO, they were just ok. We’ve had crab cakes shipped here on dry ice and they were excellent and yes, expensive but they’re also expensive in MD.

I believe they came from Jimmys Famous Seafood, a restaurant in MD that ships crab cakes on dry ice. They are not frozen and they caution against freezing them. They were excellent.

Maryland Crab Cakes

1lb lump crab meat
1/4 cup mayo
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
1/4 cup chopped scallions
1 1/4 Tsp Old Bay
2 Tbspn parsley
1 beaten egg
2 Tbspn Olive oil

Mix all ingredients except crab in a bowl. Pour mixture over crab and fold in.
Form into cakes and refrigerate 20-30 minutes.
Fry in oil 3-4 minutes each side or until golden.
You can adapt this to taste.
