[QUOTE=margaretmattson;2226443]I am having a hankering for some great fish and chips, anyone know the best place to go? I prefer plain batter (not beer batter), freshly cut fries, and a mug of great beer to chug it down. Your suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance![/
Clermont Fish House in Clermont.
Great

Bread crumbs!!! :ohdear:
Fried fish for fish and chips should be in batter only.

PS. It is even hard to find good fish and chips in UK nowadays.

It's amazing that not one person commented on what type of fish is being served. Haddock, Cod, Tilapia, Swai or whatever.

Type of fish can make a big difference.

Not all restaurants want to share that info, and wait staff is usually not in on the secret, but it’s the batter for me that makes a difference

By far, I like Haddock breaded not battered.

Piccadilly circus has a really good pub serving fish and chips but have no clue as to address. Just remember it is around the corner from a half price theater booth.

Agreed that it must be made using a good batter.

The Friar Tuck

"The Friar Tuck" in Clermont FL

An authentic British Pub own by a couple from the UK. They serve the biggest piece of fried Cod I have ever seen, incredible. Also have British beer on tap and an attached store selling British condiments.

I was going to check it out, but it is about 4,300 miles, and I am not that fond of fish and chips anyway.

You’re making me hungry. Going for Fish&Chips this afternoon Galileo RI options are Haddock or Flounder with a side of Clam Chowder with Clam Cakes. Other options may be Cod or Pollock for catch of the day

Love to find some great NE clam chowder here. The only place I’ve found it is O Shucks, and it’s just average.

I'm no expert on what "great" fish & chips should be, but I really like Cedar River Seafood in Inverness for fish & chips. It is on US41, just south of the intersection with SR 44. And you can order either Flounder or Icelandic Cod.

You might try McCracken’s Irish Pub on Main St. in Leesburg. While the fries were freshly cut, they come with Parmesan cheese. You could ask to have the cheese left off.

We also thought McCracken’s fish and chips was better than McGrady’s pub!

A neighbor suggested orange blossom country club. She said she tried their fish fry about a year ago,. She remembers it being crisp and light. Said she enjoyed it very much. Has anyone tried the fish there recently?

I make my own when I return to TV order clam juice and chopped clams thru Amazon 51oz containers some very good recipes online. Canned Clams and juice can be frozen. We make RI red chowder, New England cream and clear chowder. Less expensive than buying those little cans of clams and small bottles of juice.
A good canned Chowder made in Florida is Tony’s Chowder from Cedar Key won the Newport RI Chowder festival 2 years in a row available Publix.
