I grew up in Chicago and have yet to find anything as good as a real deep dish Chicago pizza or any ribs that could beat Sally's Ribs.

Bagels
It is so good to discuss "Bagels" as opposed to the "Economic" problems.
I agree with the writer that there are other reservoir's providing water to NYC outside of Ashokan which is actually in "Ulster" county. There are upstate reservoir's in Ulster County, Sullivan County, etc. The point is they have excellent feeds, provide the water to NYC which make NYC's water one of the best in the USA. You can only make NYC hard rolls with NYC water. I do miss the Italian food of NY. :mmmm: |
Bagel$
Stopped in recently. At those prices, they'll never last here.

I miss my NY Bagels, haven't had one in 30+ years, no matter how Los Angeles tried to duplicate them, they were good but no where near as good... ummmm, getting hungry. Unfortunately, I'm hoping Skip isn't correct about the prices being too high to be sustained here in TV, but I'm sure gonna give them my bucks very soon. Meet ya there, Mel,,,, |
Prices did not seem bad....

Wife had a 3 egg & cheese bagel sandwich for $3.99 ,,,fed us both, Not too much more than McDonals breakfast sandwich. PS. They were very good and very fresh. We will be back often. Good as Cohen Bros, Kate. _ |

I tried it last week. The bagels were okay. The price of cream cheese was ridiculous. An additional $1.70 for plain cream cheese on your bagel. Best bet is to buy the bagels and then get a tub of flavored cream cheese. Still pricey but a lot cheaper than $3.00+ for a bagel with a schmear. I don't think it is worth the price or the effort to get there.

I believe some of the water suppled to N.Y.C is from a reservoir in Vahalla, New York.
I remember some years back they did a test on N.Y.C. tap water and bottled water. N.Y.C. tap water tested better than 37 brands of bottled water. That may not be true today but I am a believer that good water makes better tasting food. IMHO - I may be wrong but some speciality items are defined by the quality of the water. As I traveled around the country, the quality of the ingredients that are used make a difference but somehow, the water is the common ingredient that makes thing taste better. FWIW - I am not a gourmet and my taste buds are not very selective. :) |
We shared a 3 egg and cheese bagel a couple of days ago. It was eggcellent and a pretty good value. However, the price of their individual take out bagels seemed a little high compared to Paneras which also has good bagels and is golf cart friendly. When I'm shopping in that area, you'll probably find me at Five Guys.

Hi Everyone.... I was born & raised in Brooklyn and now living in Ocala. I've just gotta' try these bagels.
Can someone direct me to the shop? Coming from Ocala, where is it in relation to Spanish Springs? |

Skeez... I haven't been there yet, but based on Jazzy's first post, I would think its in the shopping plaza as Best Buy & Joanne's right on 441/27, south of Rolling Acres and across the street from Sam's Club. Its at the very end of the mall so I would think the light after Rolling Acres, take a right into the mall and you should be right there. Jazzy sez its south of Honey Baked Ham. Good luck, let us know if you like it. Please, someone, if I'm wrong, please post the correct directions for Skeez, I wouldn't want to steer him wrong. |
Thanks, Kathie....
When ever I do get to taste them I'll be sure to post my opinion. |
