I stopped in for breakfast once. I thought it was pretty good. Odd layout, though. I walked in and thought, "Where is everybody?"

Visited for the first time two days ago. As you'll see the exterior was rather inviting. Looked like a very nice place. As mentioned earlier it is an odd layout. Food was fair at best.

When it first opened, it was my fave bbq spot. Now, I wouldn’t recommend it. The ribs are too fatty and dry, the flavor is lacking. However, their sides are really good. If you’re fixing ribs at home, going to Burke’s and getting at least their sweet potato casserole is worth the trip. Their bbq sauce is pretty good.

When Burke's first opened about 4 years ago, the outside dining area was not enclosed. I ate there twice and they had a waiting line out the door both times. The biggest problems were the inside dining area is small and with the high ceiling, it was either too hard to find a table and if you did the noise vibrated around that room and it was unpleasant. So outside we went, and the flys were everywhere. It was probably a year before they enclosed that area and by then, the clientele had vanished. Then they tried adding breakfast and opening on Mondays, but there are already many choices for breakfast.

The other big obstacle was being closed on Mondays. I think the landscapers and others prefer a place to go to that you don't have to remember what days they are closed. Also, the food wasn't anything special, I thought Sonny's was better, and so that is where we go instead. Plus at Sonny's you can get wings, corn on the cob, good fries, and lot more choices and with Oakwood opening in Wildwood, that didn't help either.

I have always wanted them to succeed. I think there is plenty barbeque around here already. I would like to see them do what a small restaurant did in the Dayton Ohio area (New Carlisle) called the Mel-o-dee. They served broasted chicken, broasted fish, broasted pork chops, wonderful creamy coleslaw, and homemade cream pies like chocolate, lemon meringue or coconut cream. I think they would make a killing. This place had a line out the door every night of the week. Here is there menu:

You walked into the dining area that used to be outside. Burke's enclosed that area and now it is an indoor dining room. If you enter through the other door on the side of the building, that is where the original inside dining room is that overlooks the kitchen. We always enter through the side door.

They have the best fish around on Fridays. Haddock cooked two different ways. As good as Lighthouse at a lot less $$$. BBQ is OK only.

Default Burke's

Ate there twice. Neither time was very good. Food lacked taste. That was two years ago and have not been back since.

I think they close at 4:00 so we've never gone there as that's a little early. Oakwood is very good haven't tried the new Woody's on 301 yet either.

Burke's has beef ribs no comparison to baby back which Oak wood serves. I wouldn't go there for ribs but the pulled pork, brisket and sausage is very good.

I thought that place would be packed when TV built homes so close. Now I drive by and the parking lot is still almost empty. So what’s wrong ?
