Your Kidding me

There is no comparison between Mayo and the Village Hospital. Try having 2 misdiagnosis here and then going to Mayo for a 2nd opinion and finding not only were there mis diagnosis which were outrages but they missed 2 life threatening Cancers. One stage 3 with some spreading and which has now shown no continuation within the last year and is completely cancer free. And you ask??? Which would you like to rely on the Dr. who saw your symptons maybe 4 times in the last year or the one that has seen them 20 times in the last day. The one who has performed the operation 5 times in the last day or 3 times in the last year??Or really nuts the one that makes you wait for 1-2 hours in the waiting room or the one who has the patients seen right on schedule. There are many more reasons but will leave it there. The drive is 2 hours and 45 minutes which is kinda sensible given the alternatives.

Does Mayo charge for crisp bacon? :)

fraurauch 04-16-2018 03:10 AM

My husband and I had breakfast yesterday at Cane Garden. He had sausage and I had bacon. We were both charged the additional 60 cents. Apparently, they are now charging extra for meat with breakfast. We happen to like Cane Garden, so we will go back.

50 cents for coffee (self serve, no limit) at Fruitland Park Cafe. Good food too.

Cane Garden is a really good restaurant- breakfast, lunch and dinner.

A ridiculous response , ask the manager why the charge ,just guessing the bacon is precooked in the oven and extra crispy causes the cooks to give it extra time and treatment which screws up the flow in the kitchen the surcharge was to discourage goofy crap like that. A note in the menu should be advising of the charge.

If that is how he feels he can stop going. The rest of us will still continue to go there. I would certainly not let a 60 cent charge stop me.

If whatever you got for breakfast did say what came with it, like bacon it's extra. Not disagreeing with you but if didn't say bacon, you're charge. I've always said & I always get someone mad when I do say this but I always said when you moved to TV they always tell you the good things about TV. You learn what you think are the cons are after you've lived here a while & not everybody here agrees with what everybody thinks. If you came from New York city area, you probably think you've died & woke up in heaven. But where I came from in Ohio we had places where you could get 2 eggs, choice of meat, choice of potatoes, toast & coffee for $4.99, seriously & it's still that mush when I was there 1 month ago. TV is a great place to live but they're are cheaper places to eat & shop in the area. Sorry, you had to pay $.60 for a piece of bacon.

So TV is like everywhere else in that respect. :)

I love Cane Garden, best food in TV...never had a bad meal in 6 or 7 years

Last time I had breakfast at Bonifay coffee was 3.99 with the buffet.

There is a lot of profit in coffee. If you asked me if anyone would pay $2 for a bottle of water and $5 for a fancy coffee I would have guessed just the big spenders. Mr. Donut should have focused on the coffee like Starbucks instead of the donuts.

Is the coffee any good? Is there a light or dark roast choice?

It's time to trim the fat on this bacon controversy, they're only trying to make ends meat and not really doing anyone any ham!!

Yes, I was seeking more info, and got more than I expected. I am sorry for your bad experience at the VILLAGES REGIONAL HOSPITAL. In one way, you had a better experience than i did, as I had to wait over 4 hours for pain meds due to a Kidney stone, but it was at least the correct diagnosis. I will only use the VILLAGES REGIONAL HOSPITAL if I have no choice.
Sorry to hijack this "bacon Post", but the price of bacon here is the least of my problems. I can drive a long way in 4 hours.

Ummmmm Bacon, possibly the tastiest and most unhealthy food all in one greasy and delicious processed strip of nirvana. I wouldn't worry as much about the 60 cent up charge for the bacon as the cost of the triple by-pass open heart surgery.

But according to the KETO diet it is a health food.

A Bacon "Adjustment???"

Anywhere I have ever ordered bacon, I make it clear that the bacon must be "dead." Who wants to eat slimy, greasy limp bacon???

I understand that some of these items are partially cooked, however, when ordered, they must be heated to be served hot to the customer.
There is no "adjustment" to serving hot food and my "dead" bacon.
Trust me . . . if I was ever charged extra for my "dead" bacon, you would hear me in California in addition to having it taken off my bill.

This bacon "adjustment" is outrageous!

graciegirl 04-17-2018 06:23 AM

Holy cow.

Drop to the bottom line.

All around us there are real problems.

Sixty cents.

I like Cane Garden, usually find something nice to eat there and ALWAYS find delightful servers.

Today dawns another beautiful day in The Villages.

Be happy with me.

I'm quoting this post because it makes the most sense to me regarding this situation. Maybe someone can verify the next time they go to Cane Garden in order to calm down the bacon lovers on this thread. :D

I will try to remember to call them today and see what the beef is about.

Doesn't make sense. On their online menu, 3 strips of bacon is a side item for $2.99.

Chief b 04-17-2018 08:01 AM

Seriously? Ridiculous answer. Crispy bacon should not come with an upcharge. Otherwise, reduce the price of soft scrambled eggs then, or hamburgers cooked medium. Hope the manager is taking note of these comments. They will lose business over a little extra time on the cooktop.

Bethwill 04-17-2018 08:15 AM

Maybe Cane Garden is trying to make up the revenue they will lose after the seasonal people leave, since they were SO rude to the year round residents ALL winter. We were even told to wait on ourselves while the help sat at a table next to us and ate and folded napkins.

graciegirl 04-17-2018 09:35 AM

Bethwill. I read your post and it made me angry. I cannot tell you how many times we have eaten at Cane Garden over the last ten years and never ONCE were we anything but well served. The servers who were folding napkins weren't hired to cook.

I just now called Cane Garden and by the way the person who answered the phone was aware of this thread. I asked her two questions;

Is there a charge for crispy bacon....The answer was NO.

Is there a $.60 charge for meat. The answer was No.

The number there is 352.750.0627 if the OP would like to call and discuss the error in his bill.

OK, OK, I get it. Way too many Villagers just like to be sarcastic with their responses.

The bacon was not 60 cents. I paid full price for the bacon with the breakfast. That was on the menu. The 60 cents on the bill was for ordering it crispy. Yes, the food at Cane Gardens is indeed great, especially breakfast, AND I will go back. My only concern was why a charge for making it crispy, Never heard of such a thing, anywhere! And, NOT indicated on the menu.

AND, I do indeed love living in The Villages, I never indicated that I did not. Lets all calm down and not try to read between the lines on comments on this forum. OK, I had my rebuttal time. Lets just move on.

jerseyvillager 04-17-2018 12:51 PM

Clarification

Dave you are wrong. You ordered a meal that did not include bacon or any other meat. Listed on the menu below the description are the add on's. The 60 cent charge was for the bacon you ordered (a very reasonable price for two pieces of bacon I might add). The description on you receipt was to be sure you got well done bacon. The 60 cent charge was for the bacon you ordered. I really do believe you owe the people at Cane Garden an apology. You most certainly were not charged extra to get the bacon well done.

jerseyvillager 04-17-2018 01:02 PM

Bacon

Dave my comments are only accurate if it was the Mcllory that you ordered.

And rather than ask the manager at Cane, you came on social media. Posted a rather odd post and got replies that you were not expecting. And now you blame the posters for responding?
After stirring up this pot you want to move on? No, you need to speak with the manager at Cane and tell us what you find out.............
