Default China Gourmet at Colony Plaza

I was picking up some food today at the China Gourmet restaurant. There were two teenage girls and a small boy about 4 or 5 years old sitting at the counter directly behind the cash register, where they place the outgoing food orders. They were pealing and separating fruit with their bare hands in clear sight of the customers. I don't know if this legal, but it made me feel uncomfortable, especially that they have a small child preparing food. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I don't think I will be going back there anytime soon.

Kinda makes one wonder what's going on behind the door to the kitchen that you can't see?

It's not illegal to have the OWNERS children do small tasks in a restaurant but it IS a health code violation to peel fruit with their bare hands. If these were children of an employee then that is also a code violation.

is it possible that the fruit they were peeling were for themselves, the family or the staff since I'm not certain what menu items have fruit. Then again I've only ordered a few select dishes 50 or 60 times over 7 years from their menu. I do agree that it doesn't appear that they're aware of what we perceive as a food safety concern.

I guess that's possible. They were peeling oranges and placing the wedges on the countertop, but they were not eating.

Actually, the Colony location has an open kitchen totally visible to everyone.

They are fast, efficient and incredibly low prices. I would highly recommend giving them a try. Don’t let fear of the unknown stop you from living. Keep in mind that exposure to every kind of germ known on earth also makes the bodies immune system stronger.

I haven't seen any problems from health dept inspections there. Go there all the time.

I stop by there all the time to take food home.

Let the worry warts stay away; less wait time for those of us who do go there and enjoy the food.

What bothers me any restaurant servers touching coffee and drink cups with the carafe transferring wet moist germs from cup to cup.
