We eat at Chop House frequently. The price for the grouper including shellfish was fine. Grouper is an expensive fish. I always ask the price prior to ordering. The best quality and service in TV.

We ate at Turner's in Leesburg last night and they mentioned the price of their special and they are a high end farm to table restaurant. Last night was Losternado night and the twin lobster tails were really great and for desert they have a white chocolate bread pudding which is fabulous.

$43 for Grouper, shellfish and 2 sides is a very reasonable price to pay for a meal at Chophouse. You should always ask the price because some believe that the special is in the price and most restaurants look upon specials as a special, off menu offering.

Happy Anniversary.

Sorry that the sticker shock and the high and mighty comments here dampened your special occasion.

1. Stating the price of 'specials' should really be standard practice.
2. I always felt that it sounded "cheap" to ask the price of a Special.
2a "Market Price" is one thing, but a standard 'special' is another.
2b. One can feel 'cheap' asking, especially in a Group lunch/dinner.
3. But I'd rather be looked upon as "cheap" than feel 'gouged', as the OP.

re #2, perhaps it's a psycholgical matter employed for profit $$$.

Buyer beware, and don't be shy.

Almost always restaurants will tell you the specials and not include price. Have learned to ask and notice that prices for specials usually higher than most of the menu.

Would not be surprised the server gets an extra buck or two for getting people to order the special.

Seems like a high price but the quality and size of the items should be considered to justify the price , if large portions OK no reason to complain ,if a great meal ,no reason to complain ,just not a reason to stop enjoying this restaurant. In the future .ask the price it’s your money.

Totally agree! Many good restaurants don’t state the price of specials, you have to ask them for the price. I wouldn’t criticize the Chop House for something that is a standard practice in many good restaurants. You should have asked the price.

Sounds like a decent price. Thanks for the tip. We always have a nice time getting apps and drinks at the outdoor bar.

I asked the waitress why she didn’t tell us the price when she described the special (I would never have ordered it if I had known it was $43), she said they only tell you prices if you ask. So I am posting this to advise you that if you order a special at the Chop House, ask the price before ordering!! We will never go there again after this experience.
I usually ask the prices but feel uncomfortable doing so...embarrassed. Or, I just don’t order it if they don’t tell the price. Thx for the info.
