I picked them off my slice and the taste wouldn't go away, worse possible food flavor I've ever tried to eat. Who would of thought fish could taste so salty. How you can eat that I'll never know. If you ever capture any terrorist and during questioning they ask for food, this would be my choice to give them.

Agree

So, can I mark you down as undecided on the anchovies?

First of all, real pizza is sauce and cheese on a thin crust. Once you start adding all the insane toppings that those from the hinterlands think makes a true pizza all you are left with is a soggy flatbread sandwich.

Publix (in the bakery section) has pizza dough that's all ready rolled out and folded over into a rectangle. There's usually bags of pepperoni next to it. Unfold it and brush it with a little olive oil and you've got an excellent pizza shell. Just add sauce and mozzarella. We use a round pizza pan but a pizza stone might even work better. How hard is that!

John, it certainly looks like a good pizza, though I am not overly fond of anchovies. But what strikes me is this: you have a picture of a pizza from 1973?? That you can find??? I'm impressed.

Gio's has pretty good pizza, they are on 301 just north of 466 next to the new Wawa being built.

The picture looks phony. The anchovies should be baked into the cheese, and it doesn't even look like the anchovies were cooked with the pizza. Fake news.

Gio's is owned by Giovannis, so you can get the same pizza at the main restaurant in Southern Trace Shopping Center on 466. They're next to the China Buffet near Publix. They have excellent Pizza there and spaghetti, subs, whatever you need. The spaghetti lunch is unreal, for $6.75 you get the pasta with meat sauce, a nice salad and bread. We ate today at Olive Garden and the pasta was not as good, although OG has great Lasagne, which I should of gotten.

You have to try Mezza Luna in Colony Plaza. I hate to tell everyone about it but I can't be selfish. It's the best and nicely priced. That said, they also have a great menu to choose from. The staff is the very best around, service is great. Enjoy!

Chatbrat 09-14-2017 09:15 AM

You've got to be kidding about Mezza Luna--poor excuse for Italian food--its a miracle they're still in business

Henryk 09-14-2017 01:26 PM

Actually, my husband and I went the other day. The pasta with clams was delicious. Service was excellent.

Another good one. I often wonder why Papa Gino's or Pizza Regina doesn't open up in Florida.

Actually, after I wrote that I realized it's Pizzeria Regina. And as for Papa Gino's... don't you miss it? I googled to find one here, but as you already know, alas, none. Pity. I miss it... which do you like here?

Chatbrat 09-14-2017 03:03 PM

The last time I was @ Mezza Luna, my wife's sister and brother in law dropped by-, we took them to Mezza Luna for lunch before they had to catch the auto-train- everybody in the party is Italian (from NJ) but me-the food was inedible, didn't have enough time to return anything and the topper was the red wine was chilled--too embarrassed for words, totally horrible

I used to have our hometown pizzeria bake and freeze pizzas which I packed in my checked bag for my son in California. Surprisingly they stayed frozen. But now California has excellent pizza, so I don't have to be the pizza courier

BostonRich 10-01-2017 09:15 AM

Papa Gino's Rustic was the best! And of course the original Reginas in the North End was superb! Recently arrived Bostonian realizing that the pizza situation looks dire :(

BTW - An Italian New Yorker Villager told me that RICCIARDI’S ITALIAN TABLE used to be good in general but isn't that good anymore, however their pizza is still good. Any opinions?

Henryk 10-01-2017 09:47 AM

For the first time, yesterday I had a takeout Supreme (sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onion, pepper) pizza from Mallory Hill country club. I thought it was pretty good. Nice chewy crust, flavorful ingredients, and freshly made. Undoubtably, it would be better in the restaurant rather then being taken out, but it was still quite good and worth a try.

I never thought their pizza was good. The place we like best is Bravo's. Add salt and oregano and it tastes like NE pizza. It is the only place we get pizza.

jnieman 10-01-2017 11:06 AM

I make my own using store bought Naan bread. It is super crispy crust and so delicious. I can make one in about 15 minutes total. Better than I can buy.

l2ridehd 10-02-2017 06:15 AM

Big Bob's in Okalawaha is the best pizza anywhere near the Villages. Worth the 20 minute drive. Out 42 to 25, North on 25 about 4 miles in a small strip mall with a gas station on the right side of 25.

FWIW, had a pepperoni pie at NYPD pizza the other evening and found it to be very much to my liking. Nice crust, not really thin, but not too thick either. Tasty sauce, abundant amount of cheese and the largest slices of pepperoni I've ever seen. This place, and Flipper's in Spanish Springs are the two best pies I've found down here so far, but lots of exploration yet to be done.

And I totally agree, not everyone has the same expectations as to what makes a good pizza, so I guess you just have to keep trying until you find one that you like.

Jdmiata 10-11-2017 10:46 AM

Of the country clubs , I find Mallory has the best pizza.

borjo 10-11-2017 10:55 AM

Giovanni's in Southern Trace shopping center can't be beat!

simpkinp 10-11-2017 07:25 PM

I love the pizza at Mallory Hill CC but also like NYPD delivery when the kids come in to town. A huge pie! More than I can handle. It would last me and my BFF a week.
