No need to be joined @ the hip when you go out in a group--split the group up among people who like to sit together with 2 or 3 tables-you'll get better service and be able to converse with people who you really want to talk with--and if you keep the table size under a certain amount you can dodge the mgt surcharge for large groups (mandatory tip) but remember to have your phones ready to calculate the $$$
