We don't live near glenview, but have had good service when we did...but it is always just the two of us

As a former server at one of the country clubs here, the problem with seating groups as they dribble in is that it nobody remains in their initial seats. Drink orders are taken, some may also place food orders, others may want to wait till their friends arrive, and it is near impossible to get everything right on the bill because all the golfers are changing seats to catch up with their buddies. If you wait till everyone arrives and are seated all at once, there is very little movement among the guests in changing seats, everyone gets served at once, and the checks are correct.
I have served golfing parties, and have been "left" with the check, as guests have slithered out the door, and there was no way of keeping track of who was where. |
maybe golf clothes is the ticket to poor service.....just saying

Our golf group used to avoid Cane Garden because they would not seat us until everyone was there. We were hot and thirsty and frustrated because we had to wait. So, we went elsewhere. Later, I got caught in an embarassing situation when I was in the first group that finished and went to a restaurant to tell them that we had 20 people coming for lunch. They pushed together tables and set up menus and utensils for 20. After another 30 minutes, there was only two of us. Finally, more drifted in advising that one or two in each foursome had decided to skip lunch. We wound up with only 12. The restaurant was not unpleasant, but they were not pleased either. So, I can understand why some places make you wait until everyone arrives.

Partial groups, golf or no golf, have a negative impact on service; Not necessarily to the incomplete group, but to the other tables that server may have. Who are golfers that they are intitled to monopolize that much of the companies time?
The proprietors of these restaurants, at this point, have no vested interest in the golf course. I assure you when the Glenview Champions Golf course is flooded or closed, it has very little impact on the revenues of the restaurant. I am guessing these policies are intact to protect the best interest of the majority of the companies honored patrons. As humbling as it may be...golfer's coming in, sweaty, off the golf couse are reflective of the minority. I believe when the sense of intitlement subsides from some of these groups, so will the admonishment at the front door. |

Well said and boy howdy? I think that groups should wait and be seated altogether... but I'd have to think that sweaty golfers should be welcomed if they remember to tip nice and thank the servers and don't overly fuss. This is a golf community, don't cha know? Sweaty Gracie who tries to tip nice and very much appreciates the fine service . |

For your information, golfers, by the very nature of thier activity, come into the restaurant, thirsty, hungary and don't mind paying $12-$13 for a $5 lunch special + mandatory drink, tax and usually generous tip. A restaurants first order of business is customer service. I frankly don't understand posters to this Thread who seem to be oblivious to this concept of running a service business. |

I stopped goin there about a year ago because of the rude attitude of the staff. I can't believe a business can survive long operating in this manner.

... and yet Glenview continues to be rated the second best club in The Villages - just a fraction below Lopez Legacy.
I have always had very good service at Glenview as well as at Lopez. Lopez is a little better, in my opinion, but Glenview is a great standby restaurant. |
