If l were the manager or owner and someone did not tip - they better have a "really" good reason, or they would never get served again ----- I hope everyone enjoys Beefs dont think Glenview will go out of business without your business -- I just love the people who order water with lemon ---I would tell them the only water that comes with lemon is bottled water a $2 a bottle, or a slice of lemon is $2

Tipping is a reflection of good service. When a Waitress/Manager shoots her big mouth off at customers she deserves no tip which is exactly what she got. Restaurants are in the business of providing service. Customer service is their most important product.

If a hostess doesn't seat a large group until all have arrived does that give us the right to short the server? Personally, my view is that food is the most important focus of a restaurant. Giving good service, obviously what that entails is debatable. If there is a backlog in the kitchen, it isn't the fault of the server if food is delayed. If the hostess doesn't seat a group until all have arrived that isn't the fault of the server. Servers shouldn't not be tipped in my view. It is their livelihood. Even if their service is subpar, we contracted with them to bring us the food and they should be paid for that service.

We don't live near glenview, but have had good service when we did...but it is always just the two of us

As a former server at one of the country clubs here, the problem with seating groups as they dribble in is that it nobody remains in their initial seats. Drink orders are taken, some may also place food orders, others may want to wait till their friends arrive, and it is near impossible to get everything right on the bill because all the golfers are changing seats to catch up with their buddies. If you wait till everyone arrives and are seated all at once, there is very little movement among the guests in changing seats, everyone gets served at once, and the checks are correct.

I have served golfing parties, and have been "left" with the check, as guests have slithered out the door, and there was no way of keeping track of who was where.

That can't be it. Most of us LIVE in golf clothes. ;)

Our golf group used to avoid Cane Garden because they would not seat us until everyone was there. We were hot and thirsty and frustrated because we had to wait. So, we went elsewhere. Later, I got caught in an embarassing situation when I was in the first group that finished and went to a restaurant to tell them that we had 20 people coming for lunch. They pushed together tables and set up menus and utensils for 20. After another 30 minutes, there was only two of us. Finally, more drifted in advising that one or two in each foursome had decided to skip lunch. We wound up with only 12. The restaurant was not unpleasant, but they were not pleased either. So, I can understand why some places make you wait until everyone arrives.

At a golf course restaurant???

Partial groups, golf or no golf, have a negative impact on service; Not necessarily to the incomplete group, but to the other tables that server may have. Who are golfers that they are intitled to monopolize that much of the companies time?
The proprietors of these restaurants, at this point, have no vested interest in the golf course. I assure you when the Glenview Champions Golf course is flooded or closed, it has very little impact on the revenues of the restaurant. I am guessing these policies are intact to protect the best interest of the majority of the companies honored patrons. As humbling as it may be...golfer's coming in, sweaty, off the golf couse are reflective of the minority. I believe when the sense of intitlement subsides from some of these groups, so will the admonishment at the front door.

I think I agree, but I could disagree, I don't understand the point. Please explain a little better. I don't understand about the golfers. And what company? and...I think I may get it now...I think that this may be from the perspective of a server who is entitled very much to her perspective.

Well said and boy howdy? I think that groups should wait and be seated altogether... but I'd have to think that sweaty golfers should be welcomed if they remember to tip nice and thank the servers and don't overly fuss.

This is a golf community, don't cha know?

Sweaty Gracie who tries to tip nice and very much appreciates the fine service .

First of all, glenview is a Restaurant that serves the Glenview Champions Golf Course. Golfers should be the #1 priority. If Ownership knew anything about golf they should understand that when the first group of a 16 player group requests seating for 16 people that four tables will be filled and ordering drinks and food at about 7 minute intervals to each other. Suggesting that Golfers are not "honored patrons" when the restaurant is located on a golf course is a strange perspective for management to take.

For your information, golfers, by the very nature of thier activity, come into the restaurant, thirsty, hungary and don't mind paying $12-$13 for a $5 lunch special + mandatory drink, tax and usually generous tip.

A restaurants first order of business is customer service. I frankly don't understand posters to this Thread who seem to be oblivious to this concept of running a service business.

Right on!

I stopped goin there about a year ago because of the rude attitude of the staff. I can't believe a business can survive long operating in this manner.

buggyone 05-01-2013 08:21 AM

... and yet Glenview continues to be rated the second best club in The Villages - just a fraction below Lopez Legacy.

I have always had very good service at Glenview as well as at Lopez. Lopez is a little better, in my opinion, but Glenview is a great standby restaurant.
