Jersey Mike's: $8 for half a sub (hero) (hoagie) is pretty high.

No waiting. Easy... peasy.

I can pay for it online and not have to go through a check out line?

Mini #13, Mike's Way plus pickles. Hubby gets tuna and cheese, or he gets a "regular" sized sub similar to the #13 but I can't remember the number. Since I'm a member of their loyalty club I usually get a coupon for free drink and chips, or $1 off a regular, plus the points add up and we get a free sub every two months. When you do the math, it's actually pretty reasonable. Plus really delicious subs. SO glad there's one near the Villages!

When I lived in Boston there was a local pizza joint that made amazing italian subs. It was half a loaf of fresh-baked italian bread from the bakery down the street, ham, mortadella, hot cappicola, and genoa salami. Add provolone, shove it in the oven long enough to melt the cheese and brown the edges of the bread. Take out, line up one line of anchovy strips from one end to the other end, hot pepper relish, lettuce, tomato, a little olive oil, red wine vinegar, and oregano. Crazy-awesome delicious.

Just for fun, I'll post the link to the menu at Lioni's Italian Heroes in Brooklyn. I think my favorite is #34 ROCKY GRAZIANO.

This is the place where I used to buy my lunches when I worked on the Brooklyn docks as a teenager, 55 years ago. Defonte's of Red Hook is a legend.

The "Nicky Special"... ham, capicola, salami, provolone, fried eggplant, hot salad, marinated mushrooms, lettuce tomato, oil & vinegar.

Maybe I should also post about Leo’s Latticini in Corona, Queens, near where I lived. Another sandwich legend.

Box Hill Pizza is where I bought subs, crab cakes and spaghetti dinner from 1996 until 2011. It's a mile off I-95 at exit 77B on Emmorton Rd in Abingdon, MD. Voted Best Crab Cakes in Maryland.

Back in the 50's a new restaurant came to Miami and offered submarine sandwiches. That was the first we seen or heard of them. I remember loving the shaved beef and sauteed onions. This was the beginning of subs as we know them today for us
