I've only eaten at Mezza Luna once and was quite satisfied. Absolutely nothing to complain about. If this restaurant is to close, let it be because market forces so dictate.
We don't need negative posters here on TOTV the help push it over the edge. What is the agenda here?

wlou 01-07-2015 04:36 PM

First off I had no "agenda"..I only meant goodbye as to the fact I will not be going there any longer…If we can't share our knowledge of our experiences so that others can learn and decide for themselves about local businesses ( landscapers etc.) then what good is this forum? Isn't that what made the BBB, seniors against crime, and Angie's list so popular? Cant we share what happens to us ~~~good and bad? Also, in hindsight, I did have an agenda…Was hoping that someone did know the owner and told them like I stated in the orig post... I ran a business for 20 + years and know that a few bad employees can ruin it…I would like nothing more than this restaurant to stay open.. Don't worry the moderator here changed the title…Sorry but I meant no harm, truly..Just can't think quick enough when I type I guess…
I am , however, starting to figure out why so many are leaving this forum…..

DougB 01-07-2015 04:58 PM

Seriously doubt if any posts on TOTV make or break a business.

Don't let a few grumpies send you packing! I see you are from Richmond, VA - so am I! Lived all over the place . . . The Fan, Varina, Shokoe Slip, West End, Chesterfield, and now North Prince George. I worked for FFV (which is now condos if you can believe it).

Without going all through the posts, I don't recall anyone being nasty or anything about the original post other than those stating who does and who doesn't like it unless I missed something. My only problem was the title saying "Goodbye". I went to our Parrot Head meeting and someone came up to me and said I hear Mezza Luna closed. He said he saw it on TOTV. He skims through things here, but doesn't read or post a lot. I had to tell him that it hasn't closed.

krausaj 01-08-2015 10:29 AM

Well said Bonnie!

Walter123 01-08-2015 11:42 AM

Mezza Luna closed? Too bad, I liked the salad pizza.

Au contraire, honey bunny. I went to a vendor at the farmers market and they told me that someone on TOTV had mentioned what good vegetables they had and how nice their children were and they got a lot of business from those comments.

We need to realize that we can help and we can harm so we need to be sure our posts are fair and honest.

zonerboy 01-08-2015 12:30 PM

Yes, post your good experiences and your bad ones. That's what a forum is for. But don't imply a place is about to close because you got poor service. Or that the reason they ran out of certain things is because they haven't been paying their suppliers. Too many people read between the lines and draw conclusions that are not warranted.
In the past, I have suspected that when a new restaurant opens, competing places post phony bad reviews online to put down the new place. Just my opinion.

simpkinp 01-08-2015 09:42 PM

It is very important how the OP selects the title of the thread. It did sound like Mezzaluna was closing. I went to lunch there yesterday and the food was great, as usual.

Whalen 01-08-2015 10:50 PM

Neighborhood Place

Went to Meza Luna tonight and had a really nice dinner. Husband enjoyed his Pasta Primavera and my Shrimp Parmagiano was delicious.
Service was good a there was a singer who was mellow and most enjoyable.
We live in Hemingway and consider Meza to be our local place where we can go at any time to enjoy a full meal or just a pizza and a glass of wine.

Do they have an off night once in awhile, of course they do, but the good nights far outnumber occasional off night.

rubicon 01-09-2015 01:01 PM

Perhaps it is poor reading comprehension on my part but I was left with the impression that Meza Luna was closing? I guess I need to read once for the heart and again for the eyes

Great Birthday Dinner

When asked were I would like to go for my birthday dinner, some place Italian was my first pick. My favorite dish is veal parmigiana. It has always been excellent at Mezza Luna. After reading the past couple posts I was hesitant on going but I had never had a bad meal so went there for dinner. Once again it was the best veal around. My friend had a calamari appetizer and spaghetti and meat balls are really enjoyed them both. The server was attentive and polite. They gave me a chocolate molten cake free for my birthday and were even fairly good at the happy birthday song. So maybe they were really having a shipping issue. My friend wants to go back and said it was the best place I have taken him to in the villages. Anyone can have a bad day.

TomOB 01-09-2015 06:19 PM

I think this horse has been beat to death. I hate, I love, out of business, in business, change the title, good day-bad day, etc. What else can anyone say. I have never been there and all these pages have just made me feel that if I am ever near Mezza Luna and I am hungry, I may stop in or I might not. It seems that in six or seven pages everything has been said.

jboursales 01-09-2015 06:30 PM

This was the same scene as Havanna before it became Hemingways which I feel is the best restaurant in the Village. The only way a restaurant is out of everything is because they did not pay their food vender. Heminways the BEST.

This is definitely not a true statement !

You may be on to something....maybe a maximum number of posts per thread....you pick the number!!...no, never mind, we will have 10 pages of posts arguing over the number....

Stale croissant tea sandwiches and really bad paella does not get my vote for the best restaurant anywhere.

I have been here for 8 years and have complaints and praises for most of the restaurants here in TV. I find that Meza Luna has been consistently good. Of all the restaurants it is in my top 5.

jrandall 01-10-2015 12:29 AM

We really like Mezza Luna. Great pizza too!

Bonny 01-10-2015 08:52 PM

Went to Mezza Luna tonight . Had a few drinks and pizza. Their pizza is very good and we enjoyed it. Got talking with the people next to us. He got the stromboli and she got the pasta primavera. They both enjoyed their meals.
I must say, the place was packed !! We were there from 6:00 - 8:00 and it was packed the whole time. No wait, but almost every seat was taken the whole time. Very nice to see.
There was a guy playing a keyboard. Very nice background music, of course, while the bar was watching football whooping and hollering for the Pats vs the Ravens !! LOL ;)
Andy, our bartender, always takes good care of everyone !!

I sometimes question some posters agenda on this site. Have they really experienced what they claim? I frequent Meza Luna, some afternoons and a few evenings for dinner. Is it always perfect? No. But it is a very good place for lunch and dinner and for some to say otherwise is a mystery to me. Maybe they have relatives that own another place?

I agree.

Bonny 01-11-2015 08:47 AM

Some people say I have an agenda.
I have no agendas and have no relatives that work in any restaurants in the Villages.
I never say anywhere is always perfect.
We do really like Mezza Luna's pizza. They have a good sauce.
I don't like every restaurant here and some I have never been to.
Actually, we like to eat out and go most of the time where we like the bartenders. :icon_wink:

simpkinp 01-14-2015 10:41 PM

I really enjoy their Chicken Parmesan. The sauce is wonderful and the meat is pounded and tender. Also their Penne Ariabata is good. My girlfriends and I go there often and I also go with my BF. Always a good meal

You are so right! There are lots of restaurants in TV, and no one will love everything about every one of them. If your experience has been horrible, did you speak with a manager? If so, what was the outcome? Did you give the place another chance?

Too many "It was terrible and I'll never go back" posts about all types of restaurants. If they stink, they won't last long. It's a personal taste thing (except for crummy service, which can and does happen).

Miles42 01-15-2015 03:22 PM

Just as those that like and support this place the ones that have a bad experience have the right to post it. The OP sounds they did every thing to find a solution by talking to the manager. Nothing was resolved and they will not be returning. One never steps in front of a bus the second time around.

krausaj 01-15-2015 07:16 PM

Mezza Luna is a really good spot. New manager, good food and friendly staff. Love their pizza and eggplant parm. Veal parm is terrific. Linguini and clams good too. Give it a try for lunch, at the least!

Jnlegran 01-15-2015 08:18 PM

We found the food quality very average, overpriced and service terrible. We stopped going there when they charged us to share our meal.

We have shared a meal and didn't get charged. We just ordered a meal and we both sat and ate it. We didn't ask for separate plates or anything. Just an extra fork. It was no problem.

waynet 01-15-2015 09:37 PM

had a very good meatball grinder today for lunch. Good servive from Andrew.

CassieInVa 01-20-2015 08:47 PM

Had a decent experience there tonight. It was as our first time. Wings were delicious, as was my salad. Busy but not packed. Although we had a good experience, I have no doubt that the OP probably had a rough time there and we should respect their opinion.

I do think it is a little odd though, that some immediately think running out of certain food items means that they haven't paid their bill. It could just be a matter of late delivery, forgot to order or just a lot of people ordering the same thing at the same time!

jrandall 01-20-2015 09:53 PM

Mezzaluna

I am sorry you had a bad experience. My husband and I average eating here every week and a half. We have had excellent service each time and the food has been wonderful. Tonight we went and I had a pizza and my husband had chicken and shrimp primavera. They were both excellent. I for one am so glad the restaurant is here and it is a keeper for us.

simpkinp 01-20-2015 10:07 PM

We had dinner there tonight and could not be happier. Spicy Penne Ariabiata for me and Chicken Parmesan for BF. Someone overheard us talking about his birthday and brought us a Tiramisu to die for. With a couple of $2 Martinis and 2 for one happy hour drinks, what's not to love? Garlic bread and salad is also great. Not a fan of their soup, always get the salad, but that's just me. Ooh, had a 15% off coupon too!

coconutmama 02-01-2015 02:46 PM

We enjoy eating there. Have only been a 1/2 dozen times, but never a problem.

Charging you to share your meal? Why that sounds just like a restaurant in a big city - oh wait, The Villages is now a city of over 100,000 people.

As long as you were notified that there would be a sharing charge, this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do.

Oh, what did the manager say when you spoke with him regarding your overpriced food and terrible service as well as the sharing charge? :ohdear:
