Has anyone had the prime rib there recently? Can you chew it and swallow a bite in a reasonable amount of time? I realize the supply chain and quality issues restaurants are having and have no problem passing on the prime rib if it is tough...

Most places I have gone to in the past year have very good Prime Rib. This restaurant must be using the cheapest cut they can find to keep the cost low.

If you want the best quality beef, you need to buy it at Sam's Club or sometimes, Publix. USDA Prime is the most tender beef. But, I am surprised that, apparently, the only restaurant even close to The Villages that serves only Prime beef is Ruth Chris in Orlando. Even expensive steak restaurants, like Chophouse and Mark's in Ocala, use lower quality beef for some of their menu items.

Hmmm.... Sam's Club?????

Some time ago I went to various butcher counters and asked where they got their meat from.

Winn-Dixie...........Mexico
Publix...................Mexico
Fresh Market.......Kansas

Guess where I buy my beef

Sam's Club---never asked but seems like it could be a pig, er I mean cow, in a poke

Thanks. I will check out Fresh Market because, lately, Publix has not been stocking USDA Prime filet mignon. But, Sam's Club almost always has USDA Prime beef. Most other stores do not.

Shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone. The line to get to the meat/fish counter at Fresh Market is already ridiculously long.

USDA does not mean raised in the USA. Only passes the government inspection rules here.

It was a few years ago, so may not be relevant now.... I asked the butcher in WD about some steaks and he said "you don't want that, it's Mexican crap".
I guess he was right!

If they are referring to "Prima Italian Steakhouse", isn't that a steak restaurant?

It is an Italian steak house but it is one of the better restaurants here.

I was VERY surprised twice in the last month: Never purchased meat at Aldi's, though have bought some specialty items there. Tried a pork loin roast as all the pork and beef state "USA raised". It was surprisi ngly good, probably "choice", but was very good. Also tried some NY strip steaks and rib eyes from Walmart... also never have purchased meat there, but decided to try their new line of Angus beef (steaks & roasts) from Texas' McClaren ranch. They were truly exceptional, what a surprise ! A pleasant one to be sure ! Returned to buy a sirloin roast from same ranch. (cuts from McClaren ranch in Texas are labeled clearly).
