Then you had a great meal! I did not have to food shop, prep cook and cleanup. I had the better deal.

My husband and I had dinner at Harvest Wednesday night and it was excellent. The food, service and decor are top notch. There wine list is large and there are a number of wines by the glass. A basket of warm rolls and butter were served and I was happy there were pumpernickel rolls. I ordered the Fruitti De Mar which contained shrimp, scallops, mussels and gnocchi in a delicious sauce with fresh herbs. My husband ordered the chicken stuffed with chorizo in a fig sauce. It came with roasted potatoes and kale slaw. Dessert was coffee infused gelato with chocolate chips and biscotti. Everything was so delicious that we made a reservation for Sunday on our way out. They open at 3 and I highly suggest that you make a reservation as they are busy.

Don't go to Harvest! They serve drinkable wine!

Craig Littler lives a mile from me. "Grey Poupon" fame. 8th tee box, Hawkes Bay.

The only good wine is the one you like. Price only really matters with Champagne.

saratogaman 03-05-2022 11:27 AM

Nice decor, rather noisy, perimeter tables too close together. Meal OK but not worth the price.

Ithought the food was priced correctly for the quality. All but 2 entree's are under $30

We went Thursday night. We sat outside. Plenty of elbow room. Prompt, friendly waitstaff and hostess (they actually sat us a few minutes before our reservation time). The meal was excellent (I had the duck), the prices quite reasonable. We will most definitely return!

I checked out the menu. In another time in my life not to far in the past I would have eaten it all. Leads to me my question. I can't eat any more high fat foods but can't find one restaurant that caters to people on a restricted diet or even a "heart healthy" menu? Do they even exists here? Surprising since there are so many seniors here and based on the observed obesity level one would be doing the TV a favor by offering such a menu. Or do I wait ti get institutionalized in assisted care?

:shocked::shocked:

Fiesta Grande is located diagonally across the square from Blue Fin. Harvest is across Meggison.

There are a LOT of people from southern states and the midwest, where hardy is better than hearty. Biscuits with gravy, grits, sausage, butter as a first ingredient, and salads that exist merely as a place to put your ranch dressing. Add a half-teaspoon of truffle oil, and a sliver-sized slice of avocado on the side, and you can call that gourmet food in the Villages.

Where I grew up we had tons of options for healthy foods, whole foods, vegetarian and vegan foods (which don't necessarily mean healthy for those who don't know). Real Mediterranean restaurants, pizza that wasn't mostly thick doughy crust with jarred sauce and smothered with wayyyyy too much cheese...lots of fish - breaded and deep fried was popular but the same places would also broil it for you. Restaurants that specialized in local produce and organic creations of flavorful, wholesome, well-crafted food.

You won't find much of that around here. You'd think with all these wild boars living in the area, someone could make a killing (literally) on offering wild boar burgers and ham-steaks in the area. It's delicious and much more "heart-healthy" than beef.

But folks around here would just rather have thawed steaks and portion-controlled french fries and fried foods and sloppy macaroni and cheese and "meat sauce" on every danged italian dish in the Villages, and iceberg lettuce salads with ranch dressing. Even the blue cheese dressing here seems to be nothing more than ranch dressing with a teaspoon of blue cheese crumbles dumped in.

It'd be great to have a properly made falafel plate, with real tahini instead of that crappy tzaziki they buy from the bulk restaurant supply company.

Or a well-made blackened blue fish that doesn't need artery-clogging sauces to hide the stench (if it's well made, then it'll smell wonderful without any sauce at all).

Would love for once to have an actual decent chicken soup made in the restaurant from scratch, with chicken from the actual chicken used to make the soup on the side, with potatoes cooked and seasoned with fresh herbs picked from a local garden, and salad of wild field greens that aren't merely baby spinach, baby kale, and that nasty purple stuff that gets slimy if it's been sitting in the bag for more than 2 days.

Until there's a restaurant that can make these things WELL - I'll just make them myself. And when I want a crappy burger or want to indulge (or torture myself) with too much cheese on a "flatbread" pizza or salty fried fish that obviously came from a bulk freezer pack, I'll go to a restaurant around here.

Better yet dont dine out and your food phobias wont be triggered. Dining out is for those that didnt get Board certified in Cardiology and Nutrition from the Google School of Medicine.

Ate at harvest for the first time last night. It was a great experience, from the moment we checked in.

Drinks were creative and tasty. Wine list was good, and I thought reasonably priced.
Food and service were excellent.

One word of caution, if you are the person where mosquitos find you no matter what, plan to eat inside. The lights outside tend to draw the mosquitos, we had to move inside - but they moved us no problem.

Will definitely be back.

We went to Harvest today for lunch to celebrate our 40th Anniversary.
Service was wonderful, restaurant beautiful & the food was terrific.

My husband had the Salmon over risotto & I had the Scallops over risotto.

We plan to go back.

My wife and I stopped to eat there on Sunday around 3pm. They were less than a 3rd full. The host outside the front door did not acknowledge our presence for several moments. He looked up and told to go inside and ask for someone. Weird.

We went inside to the host desk and 4 employees stood there arguing with each other for several more moments. We were eventually led outside (most tables were open) and offered one of those tables on a wide post. We asked for another table (sorry, I'm picky about the table when I'm spending that much). The young woman froze like she had never heard of someone asking for a different table. She said she had to ask her boss. My wife asked if we should stay or follow her, but she just walked away. It was bizarre and we just left to eat at Prima.

I know they are a new place with new staff. We will give them a few months to get their act together before trying again. And i will ask to eat inside as the 2 person outside tables suck.

That's why they have managers and Fred has many.

Ate here last night for first time. Ate inside because it was pouring out although did see others eating out there. John, our server, was excellent. As others have noted it is noisy inside, due to the high ceiling and layout so if you’re looking for quiet and intimate this is not the place. Food was good and serving size ample. We had the squash blossoms that everyone raves about- they were ok but nothing spectacular. Caesar salad- we shared and that was plenty for both of us but it obviously had just been taken from the refrig. I had shrimp and grits- excellent! Spouse had NY strip. Menu said Market price but when he ordered it server told him price ($54) which we appreciated. Steak had a lot of fat for that price. Each had a glass of wine. Tab with tax before tip was $130 so not unreasonable. Would go here again but the food did not blow me away.

They have an upscale menu for sure. With this wonderful menu, the lovely elegant atmosphere (looking at a photo on their website) and the prices, this looks to be an occasion restaurant for sure.

I think the menu offers unusual dishes.....using fig in their dishes is a step of from the usual fare I'm used to. Can't wait to try this restaurant.

Other than fast food (YUCK!!!), most restaurants will serve grilled chicken and healthy veggies. No veggies you like? Order a side salad to go with the grilled chicken. It really isn't difficult to eat heart healthy in The Villages. Even Applebees or Chili's offers those types of meals.

you are correct , plenty of healthy options, leave the sauces off the meat , no butter on veggies , lots of fish not breaded ,etc. etc . I eat out almost every night and get takeout the other nights, 83 , 138lbs , no meds

You've made a good point. As vegetarians , we're finding few choices especially in the county club restaurants. Thai Ruby is a delicious exception. I'd also like to see some low salt options.
