Thanks for the tip though.

It would have been one and done for me too if it wasn't for an anniversary get together. I'm going to give outside seating a try next time. Then we'll see.

Just don't get it, why villagers go out to eat steaks --you can get rib-eyes, tomahawk steaks & filets @ Sam's, yes they are prime--and if you have a grill you can beat the dickens out of any steak served in the villages for 1/4 the cost--if you haven't seen the meats that are available @ the prime section in Sam's you're missing something--its not rocket science to make a steak, tossed salad , baked potato, and open your own bottle of premium wine or liquor

We only go out to eat @ restaurants in TV for entrees that are beyond our skill or if, timing and convenience take precedence

By the way, just looked @ the Chop House menu,--it doesn't state that their filet mignons are Prime--all the Prime meats are list @ mkt price

IMHO , you're paying $$ to eat super mkt grade meat (choice)--maybe that's why Nucky hated it

Yeah. It is amazing that so many villagers go out to eat steaks. It's not like people anywhere else do. It's incredible that beef-based restaurants anywhere in the country somehow get by.

Chatbrat 11-06-2019 03:26 PM

Yeh, lots of people eat @ Burger King & their ilk, if they did their homework and saved their $$ they would have a good retirement--You are correct there are lots of beef based restaurants , most of them are restaurant grade beef, marinated in MSG to get the beef tender and tasty--I was alerted to this by a restaurant owner whose establishment I was building--he said," if you wake up in the middle of the night with a parched mouth & tongue, the steak you ate was drenched in salt & MSG"

I built a lot of restaurants in my career & learned a lot about the industry

Wouldn't say that anywhere else people don't go out to eat steaks. Visit Chicago, Dallas Ft.Worth, Las Vegas, Memphis, NYC, or Kansas City to name a few. steakhouse and steak eater destinations.

Hat off to Chat. Went to Sam's last week about 10 AM. Was super impressed with their meat selection. Bought 2 lbs of USDA Prime Filet for a little over $40. That will make 4, 8 oz. petite filets for the price of one at Ruth's Chris, Morton's, or Chop House.

Chatbrat 11-06-2019 04:24 PM

And to Aloha 1, the Admiral & myself had the greatest hotel stay in our life @ Kapalua Bay in 1981-- it was a dream hotel, the Admiral cried when we had to leave

Mixed Drinks

Been there only three times since new. Food is OK. Service very good. Noticed spilled food on floor for quite a while before someone finally took a minute to bend over and pick it up. Drinks not suitable to my taste. Can't compare to Bonefish for L.I. iced tea.
Will try again though.

I love the ChopHouse. We have been there at least a dozen times and have reservations for twice this week. MY food has always been very good and so has the service. IMO one of the best in TV.

Nucky 01-05-2020 03:48 PM

We have been back twice since the Chateaubriand incident. Tried the DelMonico Steak and the the next time Surf and Turf. It was very good. Mrs. Nucky liked her meal both times so I guess things have improved. I can definitely see why people love this place.

Now that you mention Thanksgiving......

Back in September, I called to make reservations for 6 for Christmas Eve dinner. I was told The Chop House was not taking reservations for Christmas Eve until after Thanksgiving, stating they were very busy for that holiday. Hmmmmm. Who knew they were closed on Thanksgiving????

Anyway.....more to the story. I called The Chop House the day after Thanksgiving at 11am when they first opened. I said I would like to make reservations for 6 for Christmas Eve. I was told they were booked up for parties of 6. What????? How can that be?????

I know now that I should have called every week to try to make a reservation for Christmas Eve. Long story short, the manager squeezed our party of 6 into a banquet that is for four people. I declined that because the reservation time was too late for our group.

I'll be more prudent for Christmas Eve 2020 as we hope to dine at The Chop House.

I just checked the menu on-line. Chateaubriand is listed under "Specialties".

I'm glad you gave Chop House other tries and they were good experiences. It was great of you to let us know too.

I'm not into hammering any restaurant. I was just being honest and very kind.

I don't think there is a business on earth that can't have a bad day and they should be allowed to skate once or twice tops.

Had my first experience with Turners last night .. Must say I enjoyed that way more than the Chop House. The short ride was worth it.

Try reservations. The only way to go.

Went to Chop House Saturday evening. Perfectly edible food, good service, and a nice server.
Wife had the Pork medalions, which were very good.
I had lamb shank, which was cooked nicely, but to my mind was mutton, as apposed to lamb.
Nothing to complain about, and better than most restaurants in TV.
Over priced? Yes.
Would we go again? Only if out of food at home.
JMO.

Can't Make It Up

We have been wanting to dine at Chops and finally made it a few days ago. The setting was fine as sat outside and it was great weather. I ordered the "short ribs" and they were very good. On a regular basis I order the Bob Evans Pot Roast dinner to go. To compare the Chops Short Rib dinner and Bob Evens Pot Roast was interesting. Start with they both tasted the same. To compare the rest: Chops= larger pieces of meat, Bob Evans about the same volume,Bob Evans mashed potatoes were better, chops was with roasted mushrooms, Bob Evans with green beans. The waiter at Chops had a "mild" attitude, BE not relevant. Price: Chops twice the price at Bob Evans. We would definitely go back to Chops but thought it was interesting as both main item of the meal (Meat) tasted the same. :ho:

Went once with visiting relatives for special occasion. Ordered prime? Ribeyes. What we got for $48 each couldn’t have been prime. Wife and I didn’t complain at the time because we didn’t want to make a scene in front of guests and weren’t sure if it was just us who weren’t pleased. However when we got home and inquired how they liked the new steakhouse found out they were surprised at the quality of the meat too. If it was only my wife and I we would have asked to speak to a manager.

I had the "short ribs" last night. Was advised ahead of time that they were "medallions" not bone-in ribs, but I tried them anyway. Tasted good, but were more like thick slices of pot roast. Experiment over, will try something else next time.

Did they seat you right away when you arrived? Many patrons complain they tell you to "Go to the bar and we'll call you when your table is ready". But the restaurant is empty and the servers are standing around with nothing to do. Irritates me.

Skip

Went to The Chop House for two friends birthdays. We went early to have some drinks and were seated in a timely fashion because we had an early dinner appointment..

We all enjoyed our meals. My 5 oz filet was cooked to perfection, The sauteed mushrooms was a great side dish and the mash was good. All in all, a good meal for the money. IMHO

Bummer.............Lunch yesterday with less than lovely results.

Veggie Flatbread came out doughy. The crust was no where done.

2nd meal at the table: Ordered burger medium-well to well. Came out medium rare.

Meals #3 & #4 were fine.

Question: What's happening with the water way there?? Noisy generator running and the water wheel was removed.

I think I read where a bigger water wheel is on the way.
