OK, so four months later I found a great German Restaurant!
In November I was looking for a good German restaurant. Someone recommended the Dinner Bell on 441 in Fruitland Park.
Tried it tonite and I must say it was exceptionally good! Looks like a hole in the ground from the outside but kind of cute inside. This is a family owned and run restaurant since 1957. The original owners came over from Berlin and the same family recipe's from the original owners are still used. Highly recommend it if you like good German cooking. I had to laugh tho, the sign out front said "large Jumbo shrimp and German food".Quite a combo. :

Agree, the sign and exterior almost sent us the other way. We are sure glad that we pressed on as we enjoyed the food.

Glad y'all finally got past the"decor" and got to enjoy the restaurant. Sehr gut grub. Read an article about it several months ago in one of the newspapers. As Nonie says, the German recipes are authentic family heirlooms. If I remember correctly, the present owner is of Oriental extraction and worked for years in the place before taking over. Only in America.

Nonie, we'll have to go there when I'm in TV... I love German food. Not many people do, but when I lived in Manhattan, there was an authentic German restaurant in my building and I ate there every Friday night as a treat!! I loved it so much. We'll go in April, okay?

Re: OK, so four months later I found a great German Restaurant!
Nope, didn't know the Orange Blossom Restaurant had a German night. Will have to check it out. Actually, I'd just about give my eyeteeth for some truly good, German potato balls. Mom used to make the best.
She also had a special recipe for red cabbage that I've never been able to duplicate. It had cinnamon sticks (not ground), apples and I believe onions. Have no idea what else but it was soooooooooo good. So, I keep looking and trying every recipe I can find, even check it out in restaurants to see if someone comes close. lol She told me she'd give me this recipe before she died. Guess it was a tradition that it not be handed down until close to that time. Sadly, her death was rather sudden.
