Red Sauce - Beware of new wine prices
Red Sauce is coming out with a new menu & we saw a copy of it Friday night. Many of the wines on their wine list will cost $10 a bottle more when this menu takes effect. Is it just me, or is this outrageous?

My WINE about Red Sauce from past summer
In another thread on "Red Sauce" this past summer, I complained about being charged $9 for wine by the glass.....Chanti!
My wife and I ended up spending more than $50 for dinner for 2, as I had 2 glasses of wine and ended up being surprised by the price(more than NY City wine by the glass). When I told the waitress of my "surprise" she said she would normally have told me about the high price, but the staff was told to NOT tell customers the price unless asked. Not been back since! |

Gotta disagree!
I routinely spend 7-10 dollars for wine at a liquer store and a restaurant must make a little profit. If you said $10 a glass I'd be a little suspect but $10 a bottle is no problem - IMHO

Yes they are entitled to make a profit. But my understanding of the first post might be different than yours. I read that to say that Redsauce, who may be charging maybe $22 for that 7-10 bottle you mentioned, will very soon be charging $32 for that same bottle. If I am correct then I hope they do not look for me to buy wine next time we dine there. If I have it wrong then my apologies. |

In reading jllewi's post, it says $10.00 a bottle "more" than it was. That's a big jump in price. I don't go there anymore because of their happy hour times.

That was my take too. $10 more per bottle.

$10 on a $22 bottle is a 45% increase, that's a little steep. I have another one for all you wine lovers. A few weeks ago the "Wine Bar" at LSL was selling the same wine that was selling at CVS for $3.33 a bottle, or 3 for $10.00, for $4.00 a glass!

I thought the poster meant Garvinos. I believe the wine bar at LSL is run by the Villages.

Sorry I didn't mean Garvino's, it was the wine bar on the Square. Maybe it's called the Wine Hut?

Come on folks. Most places make a 200% to 300% profit on wine. Especially the low end wine. If they buy it for $10, they sell it for $30. Only when you get up into the $50 plus bottles does the margin drop, but they still sell it for $100. I actually find Garvino's reasonable. I can buy a decent bottle of wine in the shop for $20 to $30 and they charge a $10 fee to serve it with live music. That is cheaper then any restaurant. When it is a cold as it has been lately, you will find me there and not the square.
