Default SQ1 Square One Square1 - busted

$5 Monday All-American Burgers - NOT! Despite getting a text message at 10:50am on Monday (9/30) advising of the $5 special burger I learned at 7:30pm it was not to be. Apparently Square1 decided not to offer the $5 special but didn't inform its loyalty email/text messaging list. As we tried to order the special we were informed that it was not being offered. 3 other couples at the bar discovered the same so it wasn't just us. Although the food and service has been very good I can't help but feeling taken advantage of. Why wasn't a follow up message sent indicating the special was not going to be offered? So the conclusion is: Their marketing machine can't be trusted - verify before leaving for the restaurant. For us I think we'll choose other venues ...

Mistakes happen. The food and service are very good at Square 1. I would give them another try.

Two suggestions. Check the message board by the door. It generally list the daily specials. Check with the hostess before being seated. Doing these two simple steps will eliminate a lot of “surprises”.

I ate at Square 1 a couple of times when they first opened, back when they a line at the door. The burger was $11 and I thought no better than the $7.99 Old Timer at Chilis I've been eating for years, or you find at Outback, Ruby Tuesday and any type restaurant. I tried them again about a year later and they had it so cold, there was frost on the windows and I couldn't wait to leave. Then I read in the paper that a waitress had been caught stealing $4,000 by manipulating sales. I figured if a place doesn't have better controls than that on personnel, then what can the food be like. Sending out a wrong e-mail is another example.

Villages News

Sept 30, 2015

A 25-year-old server at Square 1 Burgers & Bar is accused of stealing more than $4,000 from the popular burger restaurant.

Michelle Ann Powell of 10165 SE 150th Lane in Summerfield is facing a felony charge of fraud following her arrest Tuesday by Wildwood police at the restaurant located in the Pinellas Plaza shopping center in The Villages.

She is accused of taking the money between June 1 and Sept. 29, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Powell would void all tickets in which customers had paid in cash and she would keep the cash for herself, the arrest report indicated.

The large number of voided sales made management suspicious. Upon further investigation, the voided transactions were traced back to Powell.

She was met by a Wildwood police detective when she arrived at work at noon Tuesday.

She is accused of taking $4,281 over a four-month period.

She was booked on $5,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.

I sat on the patio last week with my dog. They made it very clear the dogs must sit or lay on the ground. On your lap or in a chair is not permitted.

I reread the email received from SQ1 yesterday. The subject line said “No All American 9/30” That in itself is not real clear they are referring to the $5.00 burger Monday. However, in the body of the email it states the $5.00 burger will resume on Monday October 7th. I will be there!

I brought my Pet Parrot and Cat to Square 1 about 1 1/2 years ago and was asked to leave.

My Parrot was happy in his Cage and my Cat in his Carrier....Go Figure.

If a dog ,cat or any animal was allowed to sit in a chair at this eatery, management/ owner should be ashamed. That is disgusting!
