Reality, your taste changes as we age. Endless posted debate, they don't make pizza like they used to. I find that I need to add a little salt.

Subs-in my college years, I complete with long hair and my 1964 VW with 100,000 miles on it drove across the US camping most nights an adventure. All you can eat buffet.
Comment form some brat. Mommy there going back for the third time. A hero, you can buy a foot long at a sandwich place or go to the grocery store, buy the bread and stuff to put on it. Wipe the knife off on your jeans to clean it and make your own for at least 30% less.

I always get the Jersey Mike's extra large (18"?) Italian sub and eat it myself.

You know you can order as a deluxe or double meat with whatever on them that you request. Makes for a delicious sub sandwich.

Not a fan of Sub Sandwiches (not on my cardiologist’s list of food recommendations) but occasionally will share a footlong with my wife. That said, my experience with Subway goes from very good to mediocre. Not all Subway stores are alike in quality. Much depends on the ownership, mangers and trained employees. The same can be said regarding other “branded” Sub Stores too. Good luck in your search.

Firehouse are cheaper than Jersey Mike's because they have a lot of bread and fillers and way less meat. Even Subway is better than Firehouse.

I've lived between those locations most of my life. I don't know of anyone from Connecticut who hasn't ever had one or doesn't consider it a normal option when it's take-out night.

I don't know how someone in New England, with SO many great independent sub shops could have preferred Subway. When I lived in the Boston area I would not have touched a Subway sandwich. DeAngelo's was better but even they could never compare to the mom and pop joints.🤮

mjpuleo 03-11-2021 01:53 PM

I was told from a Subway employee that all their meats are turkey-based. Don't know if that makes a difference to anyone, but I actually like their sandwiches with the variety of toppings and dressings that they offer.

Kind of like when people say that pizza from Aldi is better than freshly made in a pizza shop.

I grew up in Boston. Back in the day, I would think Subway would have tanked in Boston.
How about one six-inch. sub for 25 cents??? For me, I rank Publix number one and close would be Wawa.

Not true.Only the cold cut combo is made from turkey meat. For those who want a low cost option and one that also does not contain pork.

Obviously, you were not at Subway. No way is anything you posted true.

Subway was a staple, because it is native to Connecticut. That doesn't mean it's a favorite or that I prefer it. It was just a common thing - the fast food of subs, much like a Fishwich at McDonald's is the choice for fast food fish sandwiches when you don't want the full treatment of a proper fresh breaded cod on toast with a side of crinkle fries and slaw at the seafood joint up the street.

There was no D'Angelo's anywhere near where I lived when I was growing up. We had the local pizzerias for our meatball subs, and mom for cold cut sandwiches. And the occasional Subway. That was the extent of my sub experience until college. At that point, we had local sandwich shops, and we had Subway. Subway had a sub club card, and they were fairly inexpensive. So that's what we ate.

Fast forward to after I graduated college and was still living in Brighton MA, and we had a local pizza/sub joint where I would get my subs. Genoa, mortadella, hot capicola, and prosciutto, on a fresh-made italian loaf, with the provolone on the top and tossed in the pizza oven long enough to melt the cheese. Then top it with lettuce, tomato, hot pepper relish, anchovies, and a drizzle of olive oil and a shake of oregano. You won't find THAT anywhere else, ever. So since I can't have perfection, and since I have to settle no matter what I do, I might as well go for consistent mediocrity. Subway is what it is.

Down here in the Villages, there's no D'Angelos. That'd be my first choice for a steak and cheese. Publix is my first choice down here for italian cold cut. But Subway is a good option for "we want fast food but don't want McDonald's." Usually get the tuna.

BlackhawksFan 03-11-2021 06:13 PM

Just go get a sub at Publix and enjoy. You can thank me later.

I lived in CT for 44 years. Subway is trash.

We do get subs at Publix. But never when we want it "soon." It took me 15 minutes standing in line just to get a sub ROLL yesterday, and there was only 1 person ahead of me in line. (I buy the rolls to make garlic bread and they don't sell that sub roll on the floor, only behind the deli).

That is the biggest downside to getting subs at Publix. They are notoriously slow.

Similar to what happens at Subway when you want a chicken sub.

It has already been cooked but they almost insist they must microwave before putting between the bread. When I asked if they have ever had a cold chicken sandwich they look at me like I have two heads before they make it my way.

This has happened at least a dozen subways up and down I 95.

This is what I find as well. We (my hubs and I) NEVER share a 12"! Our tastes are totally different (I won't go there!). I always ask for extra spinach and black olives on my 6". I just don't listen to what hubs asks for on his... I think he just does whatever they offer. I never get chips, rarely get a cookie, and always just drink water...yea, I know...I'm pretty boring

My husband likes eating a whole one usually. But once in awhile he's not hungry enough and we'll split a whole BMT. He likes his half fairly plain - just tomato, green pepper, a little onion. I like mine loaded: baby spinach, tomato, pepper, onion, olives, pickles, banana peppers, oregano. They "dress" each half of the same sandwich however you want, you just have to let them know. You pay for a footlong. Only exceptions is if you want double-meat or double-cheese or any other "extra cost" stuff on only half.

I love Subway, as far as fast food goes, it's good and it's a fairly healthy alternative. The only thing bad about it is I have to tell the sandwich artist what veggies I want - every single time.

Have you ever tried ordering online.? You pick the time for the pick up.No wait it's just setting in the cooler with your name on it. I use it all the time.

Prefer Publix over subway any day of the week.

I went to Firehouse once and would never go back. They were about to put my large Italian sub with everything on it into an oven. Luckily, I stopped them in time. When I got home and ate it, it wasn't even as good as Subway which are mediocre at best.

Jersey Mike's is the best around, although Publix is ver good as well. The only issue with getting a sub at Publix is the service. It seems that no one in the deli department has any idea of what they should be doing. It takes them forever to make a simply Italian sub.

I never tried the double meat but I might next time. What is the price difference?

not everybody had Mom ^ Pop joints, wish we did. the closest thing for us would have been Public Market, Main St. Middletown, but i read they just closed up after decades of business. we had 1 deangelo's in the whole county, lol, & wasn't run very well, imo. when time allowed, we found EXCELLENT deli's in New Haven, or ride out to Rein's in vernon, i think it was, off 84W

Double meat is 3 dollars extra on a whole sub, 1.5 dollars on a half sub.

I agree, D’Angelos is great but there are a couple of shops in our town that are outstanding. Nothing down south compares to the steak tip or cheese steak subs we can get in MA.

Are you off your meds. I was at a subway. The 12 inch is a normal size sub, how is that not true. They do not put much meat in, how is that not true. They overload on veggies and I don’t put veggies on my sandwiches. Not really know where you are coming from or why you are saying I am lying but I am not.

This turning into who’s pizza/Italian is better rant. We all got different taste and opinion’s AND there are NO expert on here that think they know it all when it comes to others taste. Subway IMO, (IN MY OPINION) is and always been bottom crawlers of the sub sandwiches. What It’s got going for them they are cheap and convenient. Sometimes, that wins out over persons taste. Yes, that’s my opinion of subway and it not going to change no matter what so called expert says. Another thing I like my BUNS toasted, I could give rats —- if it called sub, gyro, Cuban, submarine, or bun with the meat on it.
