we eat at the Texas Roadhouse in Orange City often and regarding the peanuts there, just toss them on the floor! Steaks are great, love the atmosphere although it not for everyone. Can't wait for them to open here!

Ate at Texas Roadhouse a dozen times in Colorado Springs--always great steak. Ate at Cody's LSL on our 1st trip to TV in Feb 14----it was late on Friday, about 9 PM and had the BEST steak I ever had in a restaurant. Went back in May 14 at about 6:30, extremely busy , and had the WORST steak and service I've ever had. I'll try Brownwood, but if it is bad again, Texas here we come!

If their ribs are like the "fall-off-the-bone" baby backs here in SE Houston, then you're in for a treat.

Too sales/rental in the villages proper, keeps a lot of good choices out.

Texas roadhouse is hit or miss. It really depends on the cooks. Some do not know or care about how to cook a steak to order.

Txfan where are you from in SE Houston?

rodway120@aol.com 02-08-2016 08:40 PM

Fun place eating peanuts throwing shells on floor and good food, even great, for the money.
Stop expecting $30 plus steaks for $12. In Columbus Indiana it was our restaurant of choice with the kids. Service is good. On . On the one occasion it wasn't when we told the manager on his table rounds, he checked it out, brought a fresh meal, and comped the total bill

Dani Forbes 04-02-2016 11:45 AM

We totally agree.

Nucky 04-02-2016 12:53 PM

That's it i can't take it anymore. If I can get my wife to stop packing for a couple of hours I'm gonna give this joint a shot tonight in NJ. I'll report my findings tomorrow. Hope there are no whip marks on the steak.

SoccerCoach 04-02-2016 05:50 PM

Steak was good. Vegetables, mushy green beans with no flavor, broccoli was steamed ok.
Too noisy if you want conversation. Don't go past 3:15 for early seating, by the time your order is taken it will be past 4:00 and all bets are off.....

Burgers at Texas Roadhouse

We tried Texas Roadhouse for the first time today. It was noon, and the parking lot appeared full. So we were pleasantly surprised when they took us directly to a table. The place is huge! The fried pickle appetizer was delicious. The warm dinner rolls and cinnamon butter were a nice touch. The real surprise was the burgers. We've had great burgers before at Square One, Glenview, and Havana CC, and even the Shell Blue Plate Deli (or whatever it's called these days). The Texas RH Angus burgers were 8 oz, cooked as ordered and juicy, and better than the others. My wife and I each cut our burger in half and took the other half home. Never did that before. Just ate the other half of my burger tonight for dinner. I know Texas RH is known for their steaks, but we'd go back again for their burgers in a heartbeat. They play country music loud, which makes normal conversation difficult but otherwise it was a fun lunch experience. We both had raspberry lemonade, very good but the Goose Island IPA on tap was very tempting.

We also had a very fine meal and enjoyed the restaurant. A good addition to the choices available.

Had dinner tonight at our new Texas Roadhouse. Stephanie, our server, and all the other folks were warm, friendly and fun. The food was great and made our evening even more fun. We loved the TR in Clermont, but having our own here near The Villages, is even nicer.

dotti105 04-20-2016 11:30 PM

We have always preferred Outback for the atmosphere. It is nice to go out and have a quiet, attractive place in which to dine and the steaks have always been good.

We had dined at TRH in Utah before moving here and I wasn't impressed. Loud, gimmicky western theme, etc. But we went yesterday, here in Lady Lake and had the BEST steaks we have ever had! Better than Ruth's Chris and Mortons! Excellent beef!

I still am not wild about the atmosphere. I would rather be able to hear my dinner companions and a few less "Yahoo"s out there. But we will certainly go back for the great steaks.

We were seated at 4:57 after a 10 minute wait. Our server made a point to offer us the early bird menu, even though it was almost 5:00. Good service and everything we had was excellent. We will be back!!

Fortunate1 04-24-2016 12:18 AM

That's great to hear , Dottie ! I'm headed there this week and it's always nice to hear good things about a restaurant you plan to visit !

NYGUY 04-24-2016 01:47 PM

We went to Texas Roadhouse Friday night. Food was great, cocktails were small. If it weren't for the noise, we would go back. They make the noise level loud just to make it loud.

for less than $12 a customer can select from a variety of food and desserts including steak which is fair to midlin and doesn't have to walk over peanut shells to get to the food line:D

Nucky 04-24-2016 04:05 PM

We finally made it to the NJ Texas Roadhouse. It was quiet and no peanuts on the floor. The meal was a 9 on a 1 to 10 scale. We let the waitress order the meal for us. That always works for me. I'll definitely go back.

I always figured restaurants that make it loud make it loud to turn the tables faster. Move 'em in. Move 'em out. My guess is volume begets volume.

I have an app on my phone that measures decibels. It is interesting, though sometimes rather horrifying, to read the sound level in some restaurants.

N44125 04-24-2016 05:34 PM

I don't get it...it appears that most comments are critical of the noise level...that leads me to believe that it is a deliberate decision by corporate and/or local management. Anyone have some inside info on this?

Steve9930 04-24-2016 07:09 PM

If its to loud just turn your hearing aid down......

It seems that I heard that the higher noise levels in restaurants get people to order more drinks.
And as another said, it makes for faster turnover!

Been to the Roadhouse three times, food always excellent. The third time I felt the need to talk with a manager about the very loud music and staff yelling. This third dining experience was again very good food but my out of town guests and my wife and I were NOT able to have a conversation the entire evening. They will probably lose me as a customer and perhaps a lot of other Villagers...

BK001 05-03-2016 05:34 AM

We ate in the restaurant once and did take out twice. The grilled pork chops were among the best I have EVER eaten. Thick, juicy and soooo tender with appetizing grill marks on each side of the chop.

It actually goes something like this V_ _ _ _ _ _ s_ _ _ _ _.com :spoken:

This is not working out well for you.

All of the restaurants are kinda loud. If the acoustics aren't good then music is played. I sit there most of the time wondering what people are saying. I don't think it is planned. I think that softening sound must cost big bucks.............or a wheelbarrow full of socks to shove in big mouths. I have never done that, but thought about it a lot.

600th Photo Sq 05-03-2016 10:32 AM

For an experiment I invited 10 neighbors over for a belated driveway social with the " Theme " copy the Texas Roadhouse...... Loud Music ,and Tossing Peanut Shells, BYO of course but Ice Cold Beer Provided.... The social was a Complete Total Disaster !! The 10 of us threw in the towel within 8 minutes yes we had it timed..We cleaned up the peanut shells turned off the " Loud Music " and recovered.

Texas Roadhouse and Cody's I can tell you with 100% assurance you lost 10 potential customers. Why anyone would purposely go to eat at those two " Joints " is a mystery that only you the customer would understand..please tell all of us what pleasure is their in tossing peanut shells on the floor ?

JerryLBell 05-03-2016 03:01 PM

I didn't know what the hoopla was about the opening of the Texas Roadhouse. After all, you already have Cody's (and two locations at that) with a very similar menu. And I've always really enjoyed my meals at Cody's. However, my wife and I (who haven't moved to our house in The Villages just yet) were travelling in southern Arizona last week and happened to eat at a Texas Roadhouse there. I absolutely loved the chili and the rest of the meal was great as well. I don't know if it's overall better than Cody's or not, but I'm looking forward to eating at both when we move there next year!

BK001 05-03-2016 04:07 PM

My husband raved about the Chili also.

Annie01 05-13-2016 02:59 AM

had a great meal on mothers day at the roadhouse..AWESOME…the sirloin steak was fantastic..better than any of the steak houses..like longhorn etc…..very nice.. $8.99 can't beat that with salad and veggie and their nice delicious bread !! on sat and sun. they open at 11……get there early….

Chi-Town 05-13-2016 08:52 AM

Have been there twice. Food and service are quite good. The noise level is not by accident.

Jima64 05-13-2016 10:04 AM

Probably true but how much do they lose when people read or are told about the loud noise , music?

Golfer92 05-19-2016 07:15 AM

This is my husband and I favorite place to eat.

John_W 05-19-2016 08:15 AM

We went to the new Texas Roadhouse about a week after they opened. We normally eat lunch out 2 or 3 times a week, not big on eating dinner out. I saw on the website they opened at 3pm. We arrived at 2:45 and the parking lot was full and people driving around looking for a spot to park.

We walked in and was seated immediately in the bar area. I asked what time do you open and they said 3pm, but we opened early today. I always liked the chopped steak with a slice of onion on top at Codys, so I ordered their version called 'Road Kill'. The place was already louder than Cody's and suddenly all the staff lined up in a row, maybe 20 to 25 people, and the music shot up even louder and they all started dancing and clapping their hands. I think the hand claps is what really put it over the edge when they are standing about 3' away.

The food was just OK, prices were very good at lunch, but I think we'll stay with Cody's at LSL, Outback and Longhorn.

Boomer 05-20-2016 04:35 PM

The topic of noise levels in restaurants has been woven throughout this thread. Based on what I am reading here about the din at Texas Roadhouse, I don't think I will be going there.

But, hey, that's OK. Sounds like they are doing just fine without me. Besides, we dinosaurs who enjoy conversation with dinner know of places we can go. We don't have to go to loud places that other people like and try to make them stop blasting the music and tell everybody to shut up.

Anyway, while perusing the internet for articles on the subject of noise levels in restaurants, I found the one I am linking here. It is from The Boston Globe and though I don't know anything about the specific restaurants mentioned in the article, I do find the overall topic interesting. It's a real thing that many restaurants are trying to get just right.....whatever that means for their individual customer-base and/or target-market.

For restaurant owners, striking the right noise level is key - The Boston Globe
