They had the BEST hot pastrami sandwiches around. So sorry to see them go. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I agree! Despite what others may post here, managers within The Villages Development are smart folks. I think it is unlikely they would charge rents so high the businesses could not thrive and be successful. They will adjust to what the market will bear. The Villages is not making money with empty retail space!

People keep saying that they will not reduce rents during this period. No idea if this is true or not.

Absolutely correct. Many folks on on TOTV disparage and don't patronize the local restaurants. What did they expect to happen? As to the apartment plan, I look at that as a positive. Anyone who has been to Europe knows that their town centers are mixed with both residential and business. It will take a little time but the addition of residents to the town center will add a vibrancy to SS that is currently missing. Things will improve because this virus will not last forever no matter what the MSM says.

Agree. Be positive. Embrace change.

As the saying goes a Sucker is Born everyday.

Some even though they are cautioned regarding the food offered by TooJays is at best mediocre they still go. :ohdear:

Gator's dockside, amerikanos and margaritia republic are still open in the square. Just up main st we have the corkscrew, panera, ay jalisco and ruby tuesdays. Just off the square on alverez mccalls and flippers pizza are still operating.

Then if you go a few hundred yard to the east there is the publix strip mall where sakura, darrells and a chicken salad place are open.

A couple of restaurants closing is not a big deal. Toojay's filed for a reorganization type bankruptcy. It's obvious that they would close underperforming stores. It has nothing to do with apartments. Demshar's is closed temporarily. Hopefully, they will be able to reopen soon. Once we have a vaccine and get back to normal, those spaces will get filled.

demshars permanently closed -- the last 5 restaurants could not make it in that location -- before the china virus -- methinks greedy developers want too high rents

Wonder why anyone with experience operating a restaurant would open one in a location that so many previous ones could not make it.

good or bad it is a sign of the times for the older areas of the Villages. Progress, or not of the worst kind.

Has NOTHING to do with the specific location within TV.

There is a reason why 15K restaurants across the country have closed within the last year... there is an existence outside "The Bubble".

Looking for a good reasonable priced Gabilla knish. Too expensive at Publix. Publix does have good bialys though.

Publix was to expensive and people blame the family for restaurants folding

NOT TRUE. Go read the sign they put on the door and stop spreading false rumors.
