We have been to Bern's three times including taking the MIL there for her 90th birthday. All three visits have been top notch from all aspects, Spent the night, sans MIL, on one trip for Valentines day. Dessert in the Harry Waugh Dessert room is a mandatory experience. To the question between Turner's and Rose Plantation both are similar as to quality. I would lean toward Rose Plantation because of ambience and adaptability on the menu. They will accommodate requests for alternate sides where the chef at Turner's believes he knows what combination/side I like more than I do. Other options are Fish Bones in Lake Mary and Fancesca's Tratorria in Gainesville if you like Northern Italian cuisine.

The chef at Turner's looks upon his creations as paintings not to be altered. Kind of refreshing.

I guess asking for ketchup would be out of the question.

Not at all. But, asking for Tomato Ketchup might be an insult. Ketchup is a generic term for condiments. In France I had an unbelievable, smoked onion ketchup. Got the recipe, somewhere....

Eyeing a 1989 Chateau Palmer for my next corkage fee dinner. Does anyone know of other nearby fine dining establishments that have a corkage fee?

We hosted a 7 course with wine last weekend. The new release of Screaming Eagle arrived on Friday we celebrated with Cake Bread and Nickle Nickle.
All coveted the Eagle bottles and placed them with their earlier counterparts in the cellar.

Only had a Screaming Eagle 2000? once. I remember saying it was like drinking puppies. (We were only allocated a bottle!) Made with the classic Bordeax blend, one wonders if it has the legs for the test of time, like my Margaux. Congratulations on the score. How many did you get?

I'v always thought the Cakebread whites are some of the most classic of their Calif style. The Reds always dependable. The Nickel & Nickel single vineyards taste all over the map. IMHO based upon the few I have tasted, a good restaurant wine but not for the cellar.

Our investment cellar club has 3 bottles of each year since SE inception. Cult wine made to be sold for big profits rather than drinking. The Nickel comes from the owners first run, as does Cakebread. Have 3 cases of wine coming from small vineyards in France and Italy next month that do not sell commercially.
We have couple of Masters, 7 advanced, and everyone left is certified. It’s a fun club that I have belonged to for 17 years.

I had to look it up. Saw two prices for a wine called "Screaming Eagle". One sold for about $7000 and the other was less at $749. A LOT of money.

Yep that’s why it called an investment cult wine. Waiting list to purchase directly from vineyard is over 5 years. There are bottles that have sold for more than $12,000

So, you don't drink them, sad! I invested heavily in the 1982 Bordeaux vintage. Done very well with them, luckily have 3 cases left. Make sure you have providence for your collectibles. I had been offered counterfeit wine in the past, and I understand that they are getting better all the time. I offered an 8 year series of empty Harlan bottles on eBay awhile back. Betting frenzy. Wondered where they were headed, overseas, and canceled the sale.

Olana Castle

Gold Member, were you referring to the Olana Castle when you mentioned the "Castle".

Thank you all for mentioning Turners Kitchen. Since it is my first day as a resident of TV - and I haven't unpacked the kitchen yet - I went there for dinner & It was really good. Actually so good I might not unpack the pots and pans for awhile!!

Yes!

There is nothing as priceless as a sense of humor and a reasonable take on life.

This thread has been mind blowing for me. I had no idea that people would spend so much on food and wine.

I have always been amazed at people buying things like Jimmy Choo shoes, and Lamborghini cars.

But I was born in 1939 and watched my mom reuse bread sacks.

Different Castle

fw102807...I thought you were referring to the Olana Castle in Hudson about 45 minutes north of Hyde Park.
It was built by Fredrick Church, one of the orginal Artists of the Hudson Valley. He died and his son Louie Church took over the Castle. When he died Jacklyn Kennedy and her friends bought the castle and many many acres and it was turned into a national Historic Site by Gov. Rockefeller. They give regular tours each day. It is worth the side trip.

The Castle on the Hudson was a place I had bookmarked and wanted to someday go to but now that my family is no longer up there it is unlikely I will go back up that way again.

Jimmy Choos is not so much about how much you paid, but if you can walk in them. I have the Betty shoes, there is a date, the event, on the box of each time I wear them. The amount of times that I have worn them comes down to about $20 dollars per wear.
If you buy a well-made classic little black dress or LBD it will last for years. Mine is over 10 years old to date, I have worn it 47 times. It looks like the day I brought it home.
Plus my Jimmy Choos and my little black dress exceptionally well together. Sadly there will be a day when I will not be able to wear a tall heel, but I will have more than got my money out of them

No, it was on a major cruise line.

They are called re-positioning cruises. The ship I was on was on it's final voyage before being reconditioned in Venice. The rate was $650 p/p for an inside cabin. I bumped it up to a balcony for another $400 p/p. I had no idea what to expect. It was great and we stopped at Malaga, Barcelona, Pisa, the port city of Rome that begins with a C and ended in Venice. After another 7 days on trains and in hotels we flew home from Rome. [thank-you Rick Steves for telling me where to stay and where to eat]

go to cruuisecritic and search for re-positioning ships

Wow that was a heck of a deal. I will look into that.

No. It IS great. Love the buns that are all steamy and the fried onions and the the thin little patties. Happy memories of childhood treats with cousins.
