We've had similar experience Noel was our bartender server also. I have been back several times!

Are they open for breakfast under the new management?

Maybe not so much out of business as to no renewal on their lease

IT'S ONLY A RESTAURANT. All of you quibblers should form an Investment Club and open your own Country Club. Consider yourselves fortunate that you have so many places to dine, upscale or not as long as you can count to $12.99. Not having eaten at any of the CC's, with the exception of Palmers and Cane I canot make judgements based on menus, reviews and complaints. I spent 30 years dining in the finest restaurants in NYC. Jokingly I called myself "Chairman of the Entertainment Commitee" as a Sales Manager it was incumbent for me to wine & dine the visiting firemen. I find the dining choices in Central Florida more than adequate. That $35 steak at Palmers is $55 in NYC and is the same quality. You get what you pay for!

Coming from the northeast I also find the food prices to be a bargain and the quality to be acceptable with the exception of the lobster which cannot compare to coastal New England. When I visited NYC to visit my daughter and son-in-law it would easily cost me $300.00 for 4 people.

Henryk 10-23-2017 10:28 AM

Well, flame me if you must, but only to medium rare, please.

We had lunch there yesterday, which was our third time, and if they are using frozen vegetables, they're the best frozen vegetables I have ever seen or eaten--including broccoli and carrots.

Chatbrat 10-23-2017 10:56 AM

They got their menu on line , after studying it we'll give this place a permanent pass--IMHO , we'll hit Cody's in LSL much better variety and better happy hour prices for what we drink--Its the only restaurant we will go to in LSL

Chatbrat 10-23-2017 11:23 AM

Its the preservatives, sulfites and lack of filtering in the the cheap stuff that guarantees a lousy notes sleep after a couple of drinks==

There are lots of people in TV who drink Grey Goose, Belvedere, Chopin and Johnny Walker Black--however, few drink the vodka straight

I'm lucky if I can tell vodka from gin so forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question. Are these in your opinion good or bad?

Chatbrat 10-23-2017 01:29 PM

The only gin we drink is Nolet, we use it as an after diner drink--we were introduced to it when we used to go to Hemmings by Whitney, who IMHO was the only creative mixologist in TV-- except for a few most bar persons here are pourers

In different areas. If a business plan is successful than why not? Too Jays has three locations here. Not everyone seeks the same food. I would say that the ones that duplicate themselves and remain in business are frequented more. They must be doing a lot of things right.

People vote with their dollars.

We went and found it very acceptable. It is close by and reasonably priced for daily dining. Nothing special like Rose Plantation, but that is a rare treat. I just don’t cook as much as I used to

Maxman 10-29-2017 02:59 PM

I had bad service there at after golf lunch. Ordered salad waited 20 minuets and left. Restaurant was empty at the time.

784caroline 10-29-2017 04:29 PM

We went to Havana on Wednesday for dinner..party of 4. Arrived 6pm...quickly seated. Drink order came back confused but it was quickly corrected, Calamari was outstanding and plenty enough for 2 at $10. Think of it as Bang Bang calamari....its good. I had the steak for $20...came with baked potato, spinach and a wonderful bleu cheese sauce. Steak was good size and fairly tender for $20. Comparable steak at palmer or lopez would be around $34 and their steaks have always been good Palmer get + for quality, size = between Hanava and Palmer, Cost benefit goes to Havana, ambiance + for Palmer. Overall I would take either steak.

2 parties had fish and chips and both agreed they were good and plentiful plus alot of french Fries. Our 4th had a pasta dish which was fine....no complaints.

No meal specials but they will be coming in the future...they are trying to get the wait staff and kitchen in Synch with the existing menu .

I have never been a fan of the waiter takes your order but the runner brings your meal . Your table should be cleaned before the meal comes out without having the patrons having to be concerned where to put the dirty or clean dishes. THIS NEEDS ATTENTION!!

Otherwise it was a nice evening..they had a nice crowd for a wednesday night, and hope to see them improve as the months progress. We will return

We have had dinner at Havana a couple of times since opening and have been pleased with the food & service.

I can say that the folks there are honest and we appreciate that. Last time we ate there we payed by credit card and apparently we added the bill plus tip wrong giving them an extra $10. I did not notice until receiving my monthly credit card statement and was pleased to see that Havana charged us the correct amount rather than what was written on the slip. Kudos.

simpkinp 11-07-2017 09:57 PM

We went there again tonight. We had an a Ropa Vieja pizza and found it quite bland. I would not recommend that. No spice

asianthree 11-08-2017 09:13 AM

Stopped by Monday had the Cuban sandwich that we have had many times before, not on same level as Cuban restaurants, but still good. Not busy, wait staff took our order in reasonable time. Sandwich came to the table almost nuclear. Almost like it had been made earlier and than put in the microwave. Asked for mustard on the side, could not open the bread up it was so hot, bread was soggy. It was a good 5 minutes before a bite could be taken. No flavor and very disappointing.

Wait staff came by to ask how was the food. I opened the limp still steaming sandwich and the small amount of meat. She comments that that’s the way Cubans are made now. Dropped the bill on the table and left. Maybe she’s just upset with the amount of unhappy customers. This is the second time unfortunately we’re not going back. Too bad because it’s only a few minute drive for us.

Chatbrat 11-08-2017 12:39 PM

microwave heaven--no real chefs, despite the article in the Villages Magazine

Loosely translated, Ropa Vieja means "Old Clothes".

skip0358 11-11-2017 08:55 PM

I wish more people found it unacceptable then when I go back next time I wouldn't have to wait for a seat. Have been there several times as It's right down the road and have not been disappointed yet. Guess I'm not as picky as others.

I was reading in another thread that us folks not from major metropolitan areas do not have a sophisticated pallet. Maybe that is why I enjoy Havana as well.

Hey Chat for someone who dines out maybe one night a week you should stop by Havana and see that it's doing very well with a wait list.

Agree if I was going out to impress someone or some special ocasion there are some fancy big bucks places to go but if WE just want to go out with some friends, have a few and something to eat and chat for a while that's our go to place. About 12 of us last week no complaints from anyone.

I know a number of Villagers who were not even aware that it changed hands and that may account for the business. We'll see what happens over the next three months. Finally found the online menu (havanacc.com) and was not impressed. For an after golf lunch, sure, but for dinner? Only three things on the menu I'd go for: Shrimp cocktail, calamari, and Fish and Chips. The rest? Meh, same old same old. Here we are surrounded by ocean within an hours drive and the only non-fried fish on the menu is Salmon?? To each his own and if that menu floats your boat, Ok. But as I've said before, if I'm spending my hard earned money dining out, I want something worth spending that money for.

That article was for Hemmingway's before they left. You'd think the "Daily Happy News" could at least have updated that.

Although I’m new to TV....just retired 2 weeks ago (my wife has been in out new home since May)....I totally agree with you, Bonny....having lived/and visited around the world, it’s both narrow minded and shallow to understand judge a venue without visiting. Having routinely perused TOV blogs before moving here, I’ve seen so many people post blogs from their sofas... get off your tushes and experience life....the clock is ticking! As a comedian so appropriately said, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end of the roll, the faster it spins!”

High five to Bonny and her husband for enjoying life!!

thelegges 11-13-2017 08:47 PM

Sadly most of us were the original Hemingway, still eating during the middle, and soon as the new group took over, we had hoped it would return to the original. Have now tried 7 meals, even though it’s 5 minutes from our house will take off our list, and just drive farther. Meals were lack luster, lacked flavor, and yes a Cuban that was microwaved. It’s a personal preference, hope new management will continue to make changes.

Chatbrat 11-14-2017 05:21 AM

Again, looked @ the menu, very limited choices for our palate--after reading about the experiences who diners that I respect and their experiences, until the menus changes, we will not be stepping foot in Havana--we used to go to Hemingway's weekly

dewilson58 11-14-2017 08:16 AM

Had the Sand Trap Salad for lunch...........quite good.

Don't even get me going on the Black & Bleu Chips....love em.

Challenger 11-15-2017 07:06 PM

Had lunch after golf today . First since new ownership . I had turkey Panini with side of cold slaw and one iced tea. Wife had a burger(upgrade a buck for 1 slice of cheese) and one iced tea. Mine was all Panini with little inside. Wife's burger cooked very well done when waiter had assured medium. Very mediocre. $32.00( left $7 tip) . A bit pricey. Am not anxious to go back . Wish I could be more positive. Live close and would like to frequent.

Chatbrat 11-16-2017 10:59 AM

several reports of soggy & chinzy sandwiches--what does an extra slice of turkey cost or an extra slice of meat in a Cuban--that penny pinching may end being the most expensive "pennies" in the long run

All I know is Bonny introduced me to Bang Bang Shrimp and I have never found an error in her judgement.

Bonny is nobody's fool. She is positive but she is also realistic. I consider her my TOTV friend but she and I have differing opinions occasionally. I think she is fair and discerning and reasonable.

She knows what she likes and she doesn't like and she is not a snob. Plus, I know her to be a good cook.
