Got rid of all the bling years ago, made me look like a pimp, got some very good watches and never wear them. the admiral has some very good big rocks, but she doesn't wear them often-don't advertise when you don't know the lay of the land- not worth having to resort to something you don't want to do to defend yourself- because you're wearing thug bait

25 Restaurants You Have To Visit In North Carolina
Some of these restaurants look pretty good. Ate at some Durham, NC place in late 1994 with the North Carolina Central University Law Librarian, a Criminal Law Professor, and a law student who was Top of Her Class but do not remember the name of the restaurant. Pretty good though and in downtown Durham. We had gone out for breakfast too but just to I-Hop or something like that and with another group of people. |

I thought The Precinct was pretty good. Is it still open? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |
There doesn't appear to be a market in The Villages for fine dining establishments. It's fun to go to them when traveling. Used to think just New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and a few others. Never thought of Cincinnati or North Carolina. Glad to know.

Highlands, NC is an area I know well. Lived in NC for 24 years. There are many fine restaurants there and in many of the mountainous areas. The homes and people that frequent these areas warrant the prices with the excellent food. Here in TV, we go out for a bite. Do we want to spend $35. Per dinner? Not at all. For a special meal, no problem.
Really, at the end of the day, I cook great quality food, and that's that. |

Home The Precinct Cincinnati Children's Hospital dropped to third best overall Children's Hospital in the U.S. Behind Philadelphia and Boston Children's. It had been second for many years. It still is number one in several areas. |

Lots of corporate giving over many decades . A long history of high paying jobs also allows much generosity on the part of the local and suburban population . Not from there but had much experience in my career doing business in the region and even owned a business in Blue Ash for a few years . Great area ! |

Glad to see The Precinct get the rating it deserves. It also seems to me that we ate at another restaurant called Jeff Ruby that I thought was really good as well. And while I'm on the topic of Cincinnati, I might add that the Univ. Of Cincinnati & the Mayfield Clinic are home to some of the best neurosurgeons in the world. When Dr. John Tew (retired chairman) was at Mass General he developed a radical treatment for treating certain TMJ conditions caused by MS. By the way, the Hyde Park Gourmet Food and Wine, owned by a radiologist friend, is a wonderful place to acquire great wines and cheese for pairings. Cincinnati is such a sophisticated place. I've never lived in Cincinnati, but my wife has received world class medical care there, and we've enjoyed many nice meals there. Thanks for being from Cincinnati GG! P.S. My wife trained at MGH so we know Excellent medical care. And understand why Boston Childrens is always ranked highly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

And we're off......with the regionalism that runs rampant around here sometimes. "Why-oh, who-oh, why-oh," says me from Ohio, "do some Villagers insist upon painting people with a wide brush, basing their opinions only on geography?" (Geez. It gets annoying.) There are all kinds of people everywhere. I know a few New Yorkers and I like the ones I know. I know lots of people in Ohio that I like, but I also know people in Ohio who are not wonderful. Regionalism is beyond silly. It is ridiculous. And now, with a nod to my German Cincinnati roots, I hope you Villages regionalists will repeat after me....... "Ich bin ein Villager." ....uh oh, I hope I did not just say that I am a jelly donut. Boomer |
What a shame

Hey, thanks, db. I bet that other Ruby restaurant could have been Carlo and Johnny. And don't forget our zoo. People all over the world are following the videos of the progress of Fiona, the baby hippo born prematurely on January 24. She was just 29 pounds which is about 25 pounds lighter than the lowest hippo birth recorded previously. Fiona has made wonderful progress under the care of our dedicated zookeepers. Fiona's proud parents are Henry and Bibi. It was love at first sight for them, even though Henry is quite a bit older -- actually he is twice her age. BUT the news reported that when they met, age did not matter. In fact, it was said that when their eyes met across the hall, Bibi stared, open mouthed, her tongue hanging out. They have a new 7.5 million dollar home. (Oh my! I wonder if Henry insisted on a pre-nup.) If you could use a smile, Google Fiona, Cincinnati Zoo, and look up Henry and Bibi, too. ........Wow. Has this thread derailed or what. I helped. |

Some folks just love to try and make proclamations, that ALL folks from one area are great...and vice versa. :ohdear: It just gets old, so a little nose tweaking...seemed to be in order. :D In actuality, while I found downtown Cincinnati fairly bland in its architecture...I did like the little square area when a group set up for a free concert at lunch. |

What! Bland Architecture! You say! Have you seen Music Hall? Have you seen Union Terminal? Those old Germans who settled the city would actually part with some of their money to build some wonderful buildings. Cold, you gotta get out of the Red Roof Inn once in a while. OK, actually, you are forgiven. I'm just messin' witya. But I must say that you can't have "mocking sarcasm" and "tweaking" in the same phrase. Your tweaker was off in that one. Nuance, Cold. Nuance. It's all about the nuance. :) |

But, it would never occur to me to denigrate The Villages by pointing out that most Villages restaurants are moderately priced chains and that their fare was not up to the standards found in other areas. And, I cannot believe that many happy Villagers would fail to recognize that the post was intended to belittle the area. It smacks of elitism...........in a mostly egalitarian community. That said, the escalating war of words among posters on this thread about the best, most exotic, and most expensive meals to be found in various regions has become hilarious. There are those of us who read this stuff who were in the military, living outdoors on C-Rations, or in law enforcement grabbing fast food from a drive through (or missing meals entirely) who know that we eat to live, not live to eat. But, you folks keep it up. It's good for a giggle. |

"What fresh hell is this?" I was trying to get outa here. I have not posted this much on one day in ages. But now I see I have to come back in here to defend Cincinnati chili, and so........
Hey! It is an acquired taste that can turn into an addiction. Our Chicago son-in-law was being all snootified by mocking that chili, when he first arrived. And then....AHA, now the Skyline Chili near where he works knows his order when he walks in the door. Besides, where is there a restaurant in any other city where you can tell your server you want a 3-way or a 4-way or a 5-way and not get whopped upside the head. Boomer (4-way, onions on the side) |

We saw it from the roof of a building and I was so intrigued (not knowing what it was), actually drove down to it...to see what it was. I had no idea it was a railroad station (and museum) and was totally blown away by the Art Deco design throughout. Music Hall? Meh. |

The town I lived in before I moved here had far better restaurants than TV. But I didn't move here for the restaurants. And if excellent dining was so important to me I wouldn't live here. I love The Villages lifestyle. So I don't constantly complain about the lack of quality dining. I don't think people want to hear it.
