I was in Cincinnati on business with four coworkers. Our hosts took us out for lunch and it one of the most horrible meals I have ever been served. It was the most awful looking chili served on spaghetti. One bite was way more than enough.

I have lost respect for your taste, sir. ;)

What! Bland Architecture! You say! Have you seen Music Hall? Have you seen Union Terminal? Those old Germans who settled the city would actually part with some of their money to build some wonderful buildings. Cold, you gotta get out of the Red Roof Inn once in a while.

OK, actually, you are forgiven. I'm just messin' witya. But I must say that you can't have "mocking sarcasm" and "tweaking" in the same phrase. Your tweaker was off in that one. Nuance, Cold. Nuance. It's all about the nuance. :)

I am a female and I know good food. The chili was gross! The only food that was worse was the "italian" on the hill in St. Louis.

Laugh a Minute
 

I've enjoyed delicious food in small restaurants throughout the south and southeast from Texas to Florida to Virginia. One of my favorites was a place called The Cupboard Cafe in Dillard, Georgia. (Down the street from the much better known Dillard House.)

But, it would never occur to me to denigrate The Villages by pointing out that most Villages restaurants are moderately priced chains and that their fare was not up to the standards found in other areas. And, I cannot believe that many happy Villagers would fail to recognize that the post was intended to belittle the area. It smacks of elitism...........in a mostly egalitarian community.

That said, the escalating war of words among posters on this thread about the best, most exotic, and most expensive meals to be found in various regions has become hilarious.

There are those of us who read this stuff who were in the military, living outdoors on C-Rations, or in law enforcement grabbing fast food from a drive through (or missing meals entirely) who know that we eat to live, not live to eat.

But, you folks keep it up. It's good for a giggle.

Cincinnati's history is based in their good beer and their beer barons.

Costume Party?

Every time I have been to Highlands, I have been too dizzy from the winding roads to have an appetite.

1000 residents support 10 restaurants? That's strange!

"What fresh hell is this?" I was trying to get outa here. I have not posted this much on one day in ages. But now I see I have to come back in here to defend Cincinnati chili, and so........

Hey! It is an acquired taste that can turn into an addiction. Our Chicago son-in-law was being all snootified by mocking that chili, when he first arrived. And then....AHA, now the Skyline Chili near where he works knows his order when he walks in the door.

Besides, where is there a restaurant in any other city where you can tell your server you want a 3-way or a 4-way or a 5-way and not get whopped upside the head.

We saw it from the roof of a building and I was so intrigued (not knowing what it was), actually drove down to it...to see what it was. :cool:


I had no idea it was a railroad station (and museum) and was totally blown away by the Art Deco design throughout. :thumbup:

Defend the Chili
 

4 of us found it inedible. It actually tasted worse than how bad it looked. Meatballs and sausage on spaghetti for me. Depends where you grew up.

Unfortunately, for us, these prices might warrant an anniversary dinner!
