The only one I know of close by is Gio's Deli on 301 just north of 466.

You might try Gio’s Deli & Cafe in Oxford.

Milanos in Dayton Ohio is very good.

Gio's Deli in Oxford. 301 South just before intersection with 466. You must try it!

Gio's Deli on 301

Jazzcat 12-25-2024 11:38 AM

Hey Frayed, I grew up
in north central Mass and my brother lives in Ashby. What’s the name of this great deli in Westminster? BTW, the best of anything Italian down here is at Mazzaro’s Italian market in St. Pete. Nothing else locally compares to it.

May I suggest the “White House” in Atlantic City. Or perhaps you could enjoy one of our distinctive southern dishes, like Shrimp & Grits…since you are in the South now. Embrace it. Seems you prefer NJ. Merry Christmas. See ya.

If you wish "authentic Italian" I would suggest a trip to Italy. Their subs are probably "authentic."

White House subs are the best. I would drive there from Virginia just for their subs. The “Italian special” is amazing!

ResQme 12-25-2024 01:28 PM

Mazzaro's in St. Petersburg was mentioned a number of times in the comments. I just wanted to add that you can order from them and they will ship to you; maybe not subs, but you can order meat, bread, etc.

Larryandlinda 12-25-2024 03:26 PM

Assume Jersey Mikes is a facetious reply.last visit to TV we each got two for the price of one - our first and last.not just the worst excuse for a sub in 7 decades, but worst excuse for anything we’ve ever consumed.
Appearance, texture, taste, and digestibility - pick a category

Jersey Mike’s is good if you don’t know what good is. If you do, then you know it’s a pale imitation.

If you wrote Subway, you should be disqualified from any further comment on this topic.

Gio’s is ok, but their bread is not up to par. And it’s all about the bread.

The hunt continues for me. At some point I’ll go and try that place in Clermont that was mentioned. And I guess there’s some Italian markets in Tampa that maybe we get to at some point to try.

Publix makes a great sub and you order exactly what you want on it. Their bread is really good. Light crunch on the outside and soft dough.

Who puts mayonnaise on an Italian sub, and the bread was not crusty .It was made while we were standing their but we could see what they were doing and they never asked what we wanted on it😠

Agree 100% and last time I went to a Jersey Mikes they cut the meat while I was there. Claim that it is fresher that way. Took too long to make it.

We drive to Mazzaro’s to stock up on their sweet Italian sausage (won’t buy it anyplace else). While there, we eat lunch from
their deli and buy numerous other Italian specialties that we can’t find elsewhere. Worth the trip, bring a cooler!

I really the sandwiches at Mazzaro's. The place is disturbingly crowded, for a good reason. I bought a jar of Mazzaro's marinara sauce and it was terrible. Stick to their fresh items!

Publix subs are excellent. That totally tides me over between having some good Italian ones while visiting "up north".

There Ain't Nothin' Like a White House Sub!

I am from Atlantic City and have never found anything similar to the White House's subs here. Half the problem is the bread.
The only bread I've found to be similar is at Publix whose subs are pretty decent. You should try them because you can tell them exactly what you want on it and how you want it made.
Their Italian sub is around $10.00 for a whole one.

BTW -- the White House ships their subs. 609-345-8599

Bonanza 12-26-2024 02:39 AM

Why Pay More for Boar's Head?

Once you put all the stuff on a Publix sub, I fail to see the reason to pay extra for Boar's Head meat.
I defy you to tell the difference between the Boar's Head and Publix's brand once they finish loading all the things on the sub!

Winn Dixie makes a long loaf of bread everyday. Used to be 99 cents now $1.49 they are in a basket about 2 foot long. Then go to Publix and buy hot cappacola genoa salami and boars head picante provolone iceberg lettuce tomato onion make it yourself. I live on White House subs. Or Dino’s in margate or Pete’s in egg harbor township which are the best of all three. I also have a home in the villages. Collavita olive oil too!!

Gio’s on 301 in Oxford.

Try Gio's Italian Deli on Rt 301 just past Rt 466 going North on the left side. You WILL like it

jjombrello 12-26-2024 12:03 PM

Subway. You can watch them make it, choose the meats you want, have them put oil on it, choose the size, and the bread. If you don't like that, Jersey Mike's will get you a decent Italian sub. Other than that, buy the ingredients you want and make your own.

Gio’s Deli

Gio’s Deli on 301 just north of the 466 junction, have it your way, or as others have suggested Mazzaros Italian market in St Pete, Fl that place is a great Italian experience worth the trip.

We bring food to some shut-ins when we visit our place in TV.
Last month they suggested Jersey Mikes so we brought home subs for 6, they, us, guests.
Mine was 2 for the price of one - my first and last.
Not just the worst excuse for a sub in my 65 years of Subs, Hoagies, Grinders, depending non region, but the worst excuse for anything I've ever eaten.
We collectively agreed.
Not because the group was spoiled and hailed from DC, Philadelphia, and Boston, but just plain lousy.Oversize white bread, they wouldn't toast it since there was tuna( duh, Subway toasts then adds the tuna and non-toastables)
high scores for indigestion (within minutes) lowest score for taste, looks, palatability, texture.
We'd have to be on a desert island to get one again.
I had to laugh to keep from crying.
We've had far better food from Subway except for the one in Sumter landing - hope that place got better.

ohioshooter 12-26-2024 06:00 PM

OP there are a lot of experts here, pay attention. I luv this place.

Jersey Mike's isn't known for its tuna. And they have a few different varieties of bread. It sounds like you just made some poor choices and are upset about it. My first sub ever came from the first Subway ever, in the Bridgeport CT area where they were founded. I grew up on Subway subs. And I say - as someone who's been eating Subway subs since around 1968 (they were founded in 1965), they're not all that great. They're just convenient. Jersey Mike has fewer condiment options, but they have hot relish, which Subway lacks. Their pickles are also MUCH better, crisper and more flavorful rather than just a bite of limp, slightly crunchy vinegar.

Also, Subway doesn't have a grill at all. Jersey Mike's makes pretty decent steak and cheese subs. Subway's "hot" subs are all pre-cooked and simply convection-heated til the cheese melts and the edges of the bread turn brown.

Neither of them make "good" Italian subs. They make "edible" Italian subs.

pabotticelli 12-26-2024 08:17 PM

Gio's for Italian Subs and also Roberto's. Excellent food!
