Kress in downtown Orlando- the best steak around here.

Buckeye Bleau 04-01-2021 06:52 AM

Buy yourself a Camp Chef WoodWind pellet grill with the optional Sear Box and make the perfect steak yourself!
It is a life changer.

Highly recommend Mark’s Prime in Ocala

I have had great filets at Stonewood Grill and the best filet at Austin's Cattle Company in Valdosta, GA. No, we did not drive there for the filet. We stopped on our way north and had wonderful filets every time.

So, are there any excellent restaurants, that serve great filets in the surrounding area from Ocala to Mt. Dora?

Mark’s Prime highly recommended, all prime beef served, pricey, however to my humble opinion better than Ruth Chris or Fleming’s, please be aware that gentleman’s must wear collared shirts and I recommend long pants, they do have a strict dress code, and since John Travolta lives in Ocala, you might see him there as we did!!!!!

Definitely Bern's in Tampa.

I have tried many steakhouses throughout New York, Florida, and North Carolina. Some steaks were not worth the $45 to $50 price tag along with the $9.00 baked potato and $10.00 salad or a side dish. If you want a great tasting Steak / Rib Eye without the fancy decor or $50.00 prices you owe it to yourself to try LongHorns Steakhouse on 441. I have dined in LongHorns Steak house approximately 10 or 12 times throughout NY, Florida, and NC. and have never been disappointed. The steaks were cooked perfectly as ordered every time (medium rare) and are always juicy and flavorful. The price tag for a Outlaw bone in Ribeye with 2 sides is about $27.00. Give LongHorns a chance. I am certain you will enjoy. Note: I have never been served a better steak in the fancy steak houses.

Excellent choice. When looking for a good place to go for a special occasion, I found Bern’s on a list of the 10 best steakhouses in the country. You order steak by cut and thickness. Most of their staff has worked there for decades.

Ask for a tour of their gigantic wine cellar, which holds just a tiny fraction of their total collection. And, don’t forget to take advantage of the second floor dessert section after the meal. It’s a bunch of very private glass rooms that vary in size from something appropriate for two to large parties. It’s easy to get lost in that glass maze! Leave a trail of breadcrumbs if you need to use the facilities.

Mark's in Ocala. Bern's in Tampa.

Best steak house

Bern's Steak House in Tampa is unique and beyond excellent.

taruffi57 04-01-2021 07:16 AM

I'll second your first statement. We've been here from Orlando for 17 ys. now, and other than the incompetent drivers, our No. 1 dissatisfaction is the poor food/restaurant situation. T.V. and the surrounding area's total population is certainly large enough to have attracted better than we have.

Davetayl1 04-01-2021 07:40 AM

Oscar Penn’s in Inverness is by far the best. Food is always cooked as ordered and very flavorful. Jason (owner)only uses the finest cuts of meat and seafood.
Service is impeccable . You will not be disappointed with anything on his menu.

asiebel 04-01-2021 07:44 AM

Well, I think Texas Roadhouse does a great job with their fillets at an affordable price.
More expensive would be The Chop House in TV. There is a Mark's Prime in Ocala.

Hawkmom3 04-01-2021 07:54 AM

Mark’s in Ocala or Oscar Penns in Inverness.

Ddesimone 04-01-2021 07:56 AM

Try OscarPenns in Inverness

kkingston57 04-01-2021 08:10 AM

Not in your parameter, but a little further. Berns in Tampa

ablyttle 04-01-2021 08:54 AM

We like Turner's in Leesburg for steak and everything else.

davem4616 04-01-2021 09:00 AM

Mark's is great...excellent prime rib and service

jfkilduff 04-01-2021 09:13 AM

Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa is considered a T10 in all of the US.

The Japanese Waygu strip at $25 an OUNCE is worth every penny.

BlackhawksFan 04-01-2021 09:25 AM

The steak chalupa at Taco Bell is to die for.

Fillet from Publix

Bought two lovely fillets at Publix. No fancy grills required. That IMHO is more of a "guy" thing. :bigbow:

I use an electric smokeless grill bought at Sams on sale for $79. Have the grill on a cart in the Lanai.

The steaks were perfection .. did put butter and rosemary from my herb garden on the the fillets once they were turned over.

zendog3 04-01-2021 10:32 AM

Sukura

I tend not to judge by the filet. It is hard not to do a filet well. Judge by the vegetables.

Oddly, Sukura Japanese sushi place in Colony plaza has a wonderful filet. My wife loves it.

Gfnorris 04-01-2021 10:37 AM

Christners on Lee Rd in Orlando. It used to be a Del Frisco's, but the family pulled out of the franchise. The steaks and service are amazing. A bit pricey, but well worth it!

Sherry8bal 04-01-2021 10:38 AM

Marks Steakhouse on the square in Ocala is the best. A little pricey but the steak comes on a heated platter with melted butter and it stays hot all through the meal. Service is top notch too.

Mark's in Ocala is a "wannabee" steak house.
Prices are high end.
But service and quality is not.
Brought my family - and - won't be going back.

Bern's in Tampa is world class. Want great? Go there!

The restaurant doesn't have to be in the top ten or twenty. I'm like you when it comes to paying $15 for a baked potato and $10 for a side salad. However, I do not usually eat at chain restaurants, not because I'm a snob, but I prefer to give my money to privately/family owned restaurants. Although, Stonewood Grill is a chain, so I will try Longhorn in my attempt to find a great tasting filet or rib-eye. Thanks.

Was sitting with John the other day and noticed someone fawning all over us.

Was that you?

Steaks were very good though.

Sure. A few weeks ago I went to Katya’s Vineyard in downtown Ocala. They sell olive-fed Wagyu beef from Japan. This is the highest-rated Wagyu beef in the world. Only three cows are slaughtered per month—two for Japanese consumption and one for the rest of the world. Katya’s Vineyard is the only restaurant in the US that has it. A six ounce piece of center of ribeye is $135. It’s fried at your table by the head chef. It’s eaten plain, without any salt, pepper, or marinade, and just the lightest of searing. So you get only the taste of the beef itself. Comes with full bragging rights. Before the meat is cooked, you are shown the Japanese government certification for that steak, with the cow’s name, parents’ names, and noseprint. Katya’s Vineyard also makes the very best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted.

EBZ06 04-01-2021 01:14 PM

A steak lover . . . yes. But Mark's? Meh. Over-rated and overpriced in my opinion. Outback was in it's prime long ago. Longhorn is the new (old) Outback. Best steak for the $$ . . . (sorry), Texas Roadhouse. One of the best rib-eyes I've ever had . . . Gallagher's in NYC was the best (at about $50).

I lived in Tampa Palms years ago and begged Stonewood to open a restaurant near here. They would do great but as the closest one besides Tampa Palms is Daytona.[/QUOTE]

They closed down the one in Fort Myers several years ago. There is one in Lake Mary, if that one also didn't close.

Ben Franklin 04-01-2021 01:18 PM

It looks like Mark's and Oscar Penn's, for me, so far. Bern's looks more like a special occasion for me - maybe overnight in Tampa.
