Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

How is the steak in Longhorn? I wouldn't suggest that Outback is a standard for steak houses, but compared to Outback, does Longhorn have a chance. There's not been much said lately about Whiskey Creek. There's plenty of competition now for steak, and with Red Lobster and Bonefish Grill opening, there'll be more choices for seafood as well. Sounds like Weight Watchers can't be far behind.

Gotta agree with Hyacinth and Donna (us New York girls think alike). I vote for White Castle - good for what ails you!

Chicago girl here! And White Castles get my vote also. :agree: Wish they had them here. :o

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

For steak alone - Longhorn beats Outback IMHO. Outback has some things that are as good but my vote goes to Longhorn for a 'chain' steakhouse that doesn't tap the pocket too hard.

Has anyone heard of Carl's Jr.? Its similar to McD and BK but I think a lot better burgers. We have them in Los Angeles but not sure where else they are in the country. Best burgers, lots of varieties and very tasty. Bacon/Cheese burgers are delicious with BBQ sauce and a fried onion ring on it. Was hoping they were in Florida but haven't seen them yet.

Haven't had a White Castle since I was a teenager, and that's a very long time ago, so can't remember what they tasted like, just remember they were small and cheap. Never was a fan though.

Carl's Jr. looks like a Western US burger franchise. :read:

I have some bad news for you White Castle fans. If you try to eat one when you're sober, it will kill you. It will be a slow and very painful death. Even cheese fries cannot help.

Now nothing against In/Out, 5 Guys, or any other pseudo hamburger joint, but as the famous gourmand Calvin Trillin has testified, the best burger in the world is made at Winsteads.
http://www.answers.com/topic/winsteads?cat=biz-fin

Of course, Calvin also says: "Anyone who doesn't think his hometown has the best hamburger place in the world is a sissy." But he was right about Winsteads.

nONIE 11-09-2008 10:54 PM

OK, I think I found the best burger in TV. Try Hacienda Hills bar & Grill on Morse Blvd. Had one tonite and it is the best I have tasted yet. Absolutely scrumptious, you wont be sorry!

and if you dont agree, you can:throwtomatoes: at me!

Donna 11-09-2008 11:04 PM

Yes! Nonie Macaroni! It's riveting! I'm waiting for the movie to come out!:1rotfl:

OK, my vote is definitely for White Castle. I always keep some in my freezer. Not the same as going through the drive-up where I love the "double cheeseburger" but better than none. Yum! :icon_hungry:

Onion Rings Too

White Castle the best! Always have to have the onion rings too:eclipsee_gold_cup:

Used to live near the Famous White Castle where the scene from Saturady Nite fever was filmed. Alas it was sold and a Pizzaria Uno replaced it.:ohdear:

Hey, we're all "Seniors"! Aren't we supposed to start eating healthier? Hahaha! Guess we're all teenagers at heart. White Castles and Onion Rings! Gotta love'em!

The best burgers in TV (not counting frozen White Castles!) for me are the burgers at Cane Garden with the blue cheese. Very good. But I must say, we have an embarrassment of riches as far as restaurants go in TV. :icon_hungry:

I have not tried Cane Gardens, but can say that Glenview makes an excellent burger and you can have it cooked the way you want med-rare comes out med-rare.

That would be good praise from someone with a handle of BBQman! I'll try it.

Vegie Burger That Tastes "Real"

I know I'll probably get told to take a hike from this thread (justifiably). I'm not a total vegetarian, (although I'd like to be ... just lack will power). But I don't eat beef.

I'm wondering if anyone knows where a good Veggie Burger can be had. (If there is such a thing as a good veggie burger, hahaha).

Russ_Boston 01-02-2009 08:29 AM

Bare - Does buffalo count as a veggie?

Haha .. Russ, I'd never eat buffalo :yuck:barf... but I don't have much sympathy for gators, maybe a gator burger would do.

MSNPA 01-02-2009 04:54 PM

Barefoot,
I am like you. I am not a total vegetarian, but I do not eat beef in any form. I tried the black bean burger at Chiles and it was okay, not great. I had a turkey burger at Too Jays and it was just okay. I wish The Villages would open a restaurant which would serve salads, soups and several vegetarian meals. I also wish there was an Indian restaurant close by since many if not most of their entrees are vegetarian.

Barefoot 01-02-2009 07:05 PM

I'd like to be able to order something that tastes like a hamburger but is vegetarian. Just a dream I guess.

I agree MSNPA, I would love to have an Indian restaurant in TV.

The Best Burger I have found!!!!

There are a few places that make very good burgers in TV, but far and away the BEST are at Sweet Creams Ice Cream and Grill in La pLaza Grande, its between publix and winnie dixie next to Hallmark and Sea food galley. The blow anyone including 5 guys out of the water. Ask for the 2x bacon swiss burger its a wild experience. If you like Philly Cheese Steaks this is the ONLY place to get those in the whole state. Try it you will love it

Master,

I agree with you about the Cheese Steaks, they are the best I have found in Florida. I owned three sandwhich shops in the Philly area and made thousands, they are great.

chelsea24 08-31-2009 04:54 PM

Yummmmm!

Wow, this is great to know! I love Philly Cheese Steaks. I never knew they were there. :icon_hungry:

Too funny. I was just signing on to share my experience this afternoon of eating the best hot dog I've every had and saw this thread about hamburgers. I've never been much of a hamburger person, but the hot dog I was posting about was at Sweet Creams! Now I'm going to have to go again and try their hamburger.

I can add that their ice cream is very good also.

Halle 08-31-2009 05:18 PM

Hi Bare,

Have you tried a Portabella Burger? They are wonderful! We cook them on the grill and they are delicious. :icon_hungry:

Saute garlic in butter, baste the portabellas with the butter and garlic as you cook them. We don't eat meat, we are Pescatarians, and portabellas are a great meat substitute we use them in several recipes that call for beef.

Bon appetite!

Halle

:2excited:5 GUYS without a doubt. Juicy, tasty fresh burger.

Freeda 08-31-2009 10:25 PM

I recommend the burgers at the Lopez country club pool cafe; I think they are delicious. Haven't been there for a while but they used to offer two for the price of one on Friday afternoons, so you could check to see if they still do. Those at the Glenview also taste great. There are many other locations in The Villages where I haven't tried them; so I am sure there are other good choices. (We should skip the bun though; or, at least half of it).

Here, as an aside, is some info on the subject of good-tasting burgers. Some may find this interesting; I did, when this demonstration was first shown to me. Yes, many fast food burgers taste great (they are often - I'm not saying that this is true of all brands - chemically engineered to taste great; but, unfortunately, to also have a long shelf-life - there's less concern about 'waste' this way). This is only about fast food burgers, because I do not think that the ground meat used in non-fast-food restaurants is, at least usually, as likely to be full of chemical preservatives.

To see for yourself, if you like fast food burgers, do this: buy one, and leave it in the bag, with the wrapper that the burger comes in loosened, in your car or some other place where it is exposed to air and the environment in the bag for a few days or weeks; or even years; and observe what happens to the patty (and, for that matter, to the bun; leave a few fries in the bag, too; or try this with other foods). At least with some brands, you will find that very little happens, other than the pattie becoming dehydrated and, therefore, shrinking in size and becoming hard. Bugs and ants, for example, will not eat it (so, should we?) Mold and fungus do not appear on it. It does not develop a 'spoiled' odor or appearance.

Ask yourself why; and whether you should continue eating that brand of burger, given that it obviously contains chemical preservatives not intended by nature to go into the human body; with the health implications of that. It is indisputable that ingestion of chemicals ups the risk for degenerative diseases, such as cancer and others.

I'm not saying that that all fast food burger patties are this chock full of chemicals; but I do know several brands that are. I haven't checked them all. But it shows that good tasting food is not necessarily good for you.
