If you download the app "What the Health FL?" you would avoid at least the Chinese restaurants that get shut down for serious violations. Evergreen and their Colony store have generally terrible ratings by the health dept.

We tried The Panda one night when we were to tired to search out another restaurant and were very pleasantly surprised...it was fine....Drive Thru Chinese....a new concept.

Spent a week in Beijing to give some talks for work. I was wined and dined at what are presumably very good restaurants. By the end of the week I was requesting steamed vegetables. Came back a bit lighter also and there is virtually nothing I won't eat. I did enjoy the flight over and back in first class.

One summer about 30 years ago I was walking around Chinatown NYC and saw an open unrefrigerated box truck fully loaded with skinned ducks hanging from hooks. Truck was still there on my way back to work an hour later. The almonds don't fall too far from the tree.

Some would disagree with me but I keep asking why a community this large can't attract a decent restaurant (period)???

Staffing .............. for one.

I contacted the new Rose Plantation for a luncheon reservation and was told they could not get a cook/chef for lunch. I believe, they have now found someone competent.

In their online listing for help they stress that RETIREES are encouraged to apply. What does that tell you.

For those of you who think there is no decent Chinese food in The Villages, have you tried Bamboo Bistro in the Target mall across from Jim's Golf? It's our go-to restaurant. It's Asian fusion cuisine, including Chinese, Japanese, sushi and others with an extensive (not expensive) menu. Every person I've taken there or recommended it to also like it. The food quality and flavors are great, and the service is excellent. The ambiance is good as well. Try it, you'll like it.

Really good Chinese restaurants are hard to find everywhere. Average seems to be the norm. Cheng's on 466 is good, and the portions are large enough for sharing. Went to Evergreen last month and had no complaints. Will definitely try Bamboo Bistro.

Where in China was this GE?

I supervised a beautiful married law student at the U of MN Law Library. We called her Joy because her Chinese name was hard to pronounce. She was very fit. She was from China along with her husband.

We were recataloging part of the Foreign Language collection.

Where is Evergreen?

My family likes Cheng's too. But we have very 'Americanized' food tastes...heheh. So I would not venture a guess how it would appeal to an authentic Chinese food connoisseur.

I, myself did one in the early 90's and our food was bad also. We ate in restaurants with locals but when we looked at what they were eating is was not anything like our food. We even asked to try something else and offered to pay but they wouldn't do it. Very strict orders for dealing with Americans. They even searched our hotel rooms after we checked out to make sure we had not taken anything. Ha ha, the towels were the size of napkins and linen as rough and scratchy as wool.
Enjoyed the trip anyway and saw China before the enormous changes that have occurred in the past years.
