Dehumudifiers
May be a dumb question - I've got a couple nice dehumidifiers in storage up north. As as I cleaning this out, has anyone ever needed a dehumidifier in TV? I'd hate to ditch them, then have to buy a new one!

Do you have a two stage HVAC? This an upgrade.
If you have one than no. You may want one for the garage. If you have an extra one I'd take one for the garage. A 100 degree garage is nicer to work in if it is less humid (obviously). |

You will probably need them to keep inside humidity under 60.

They are great for snowbirds not here all summer. Set them up when gone so that they will only run if the relative humidity gets to 60% and drain them into a shower or sink. If your A/C works properly they will never go on as the humidity should be 55% or less. However, if your A/C fails, they will kick on and should prevent mold problems. Cheap insurance against A/C failure.

You don't need them here. They add heat, the AC works as a dehumidifier.

Florida is known for its high humidity, of course, they could be an asset. I gave mine away when I moved from up north, not thinking about its value down here. Sorry I did! It will actually help your a/c work less harder. If you have a big home, put one at both ends or just one in the middle of your home and when needed, use the other in your garage.

Yes, we run a dehumidifier 24 hours a day; have to empty once a day. We also used one in NW Indiana during the summer.

We don't seem to need one. The AC unit pulls enough humidity out of the air even in the summer months. But I did see in a other post that a dehumidifier would make a great backup unit in the case of AC failure. Seems like good advice considering the problems caused by mold, a d mold can grow quickly in Florida.

If you use the AC you won't need it. To the contrary, if you use the AC most of the time, you may want to ADD a humidifier. Proper humidity for health is between 35% and 55%, the closer to 55% the better. It also helps on your utility bill.

You may want it in your garage when the rain and heat start in earnest this summer. Otherwise everything in the garage will tend to get mildew.

The tempeture you keep your A/C at will help deterring the amount of humidity in your home. The lower the temp the less humidity.

For those that do not have the HVAC thermostat that controls humidity while the house is unoccupied thru the summer, you can set a all-around humidifier in the shower and set it on while you are gone.
