I see that Caligula and Commodus both have birthdays this August 31. Two of the worst Roman Emperors according to most historians. They both get terrible biographical treatment from Hollywood as well. Caligula a movie from around 1979 and Gladiator portray these two emperors.

I am always trying to figure out the problem of evil but still do not have any kind of grasp of it after the murder of my high school English teacher's daughter on my 2-24 birthday in 1976. This was in Reno, Nevada near the University of Reno, Nevada campus. I have used that experience to try to empathize with people drawn into the legal system with very little consent to being in that situation.


So dates obviously can be associated with both terrible events as well as very good ones.

Hard to tell God's plan. The Christians at around that time were often being fed to lions for the amusement of the crowds in the Coliseum and in other venues. A lot of other people were also fed to the lions and other beasts. The Emperors and others did not discriminate as far as who they used to entertain the spectators. And local bullies would also be doing it in their towns and cities.

I was in Reno that week to celebrate my Feb 27th 21st birthday. I still think about that sad news. That memory is etched in my head... That was back in the day when I lived in CA, now Florida.

The people at the UNR campus were very much interested in the outcome of the investigation which had a lot of twists and turns. A segment of a criminal forensics show by Paula Zahn covers it describing how they got the right murderer in 2014 in the person of serial killer Rodney Halbower.

Paula Zahn has 2-24 as her birthday which is kind of a strange co-incidence. I have written many media people over the years but do not recall ever sending her a letter, email, or Facebook message,etc.

One San Francisco area anchor back in the early 1990s was particularly helpful with a well thought out letter.
