Default Persistent alma maters' donation calls.

Anyone else get a lot of phone calls from their alma maters asking for donations?

I got one Thursday night and then again Friday night. I can tell who is likely calling so I usually do not bother to answer calls from schools looking for donations.

Most of these are from the U of MN Law School which seems to just give law students lists of whoever has donated in the past as well as who has yet to donate.

I have donated in the past just to stop them from calling every week. Usually give them $1.36, $3.16, $6.13, $4.22 or $2.24.

These are numbers (mainly 613 and 224) I used heavily in my efforts for getting better access for victims/survivors of victims of crimes to practical information. I used these numbers basically from mid 1992 through 2007 or so. They show up in some of my posts as Taltarzac here on TOTV. I kind of cooled my passion for this cause after The Villages Daily Sun reporter Gary Corsair did an article on me around 2007 on my efforts to get the Florida Victim Services Directory linked from Lake, Sumter, and Marion County libraries. http://myfloridalegal.com/directory

I get almost no donation calls from my other alma maters though-- Denver University and the University of Nevada, Reno.

I usually get a call once or twice a year from my old school. It's always from a student - they're obviously following a script and just by the way they go through it, the feeling is that it's not a 3rd party 'professional solicitor'.

Mine seem to be students as the phone ids are usually cell phones from Wisconsin or Minnesota. It is almost never the U of MN though.

Never get any e-mails from schools asking for donations. Get an awful lot of mail though from them which is very easy to handle. There is a very convenient trash can right next to the postal center.

The phone calls.......Between all of our children we have eight different schools who want money. Last saturday there were 11 calls 2 from schools they never attended. Always ask for my husband so this week i told them he was no longer with me. Well they were so sorry took us off the list. We will see, course didn't tell them he was in TV. Hahahaha

I tell them that I am retired and cannot afford to donate any more and to please tale me off of the telephone list.

It works.

It's you're own fault. If you had kept your GPA low, they would leave you alone figuring that you probably wouldn't be making enough money to make a donation anyway.

Good point, Jim..........which is why I find it puzzling that they've EVER bothered to call me.
